Focus (or Lack Thereof)

By
Real Estate Agent with The Kelly Domaille Team at Keller Williams Premier Realty

That's been my struggle for a number of months now and maybe yours too.

The Real Estate business offers you the best opportunity to make as much money as you want and build relationships along the way. Unfortunately, it also provides you with what I believe is the greatest number of distractions and excuses for not doing what you should be doing.

A few of the distractions/excuses I have gotten caught up in lately which have taken my focus off my main business of selling residential real estate are flips (the rehabbing of older homes), hating to make calls, thinking that my wife could be my accountability partner (and I hers) and life/drama around the office. Let's dig into a couple of these a little farther and see if we can't get to the root cause.Focus

The Accountability Partner

If you've ever watched The Biggest Loser, you'll understand where I'm going with this. We see teams of people (couples, families and friends) join the show with one common issue...their weight. They are not special or unique. They are just like you and I...heck, all of us. We may not have the same issue as they do, but we all have our individual issues we deal with, everyday. These people on The Biggest Loser are screaming at the rest of us in the world and telling us that our friends, family and spouses are terrible accountability partners. An a much as these overweight people may hate Bob & Jillian (the personal trainers on the show), these two are the best accountability partners in the world for the lucky ones at the Ranch.

Find someone who is an expert in the field you need help with (be it an action coach, personal trainer, pastor/priest, etc.) and seek their help. You need it (and a lot of it) to help get you focused again.

Office Drama/Life

What a waste of time! Water cooler discussions about who did what to whom and when. Or complaining about something or someone and not addressing it at the source. If you can't change anything or don't have any input, don't worry about it. If you don't like something or someone, go to the source and discuss your issue - GET IT RESOLVED! Stop sucking me into your worthless conversations. I am in Real Estate because I love it and work hard at it, so I don't have time for your distractions.

80% of the people in your office setting are there to either socialize or let themselves be sucked into the socialization world these people create. You have a choice to be in the 20% that actually work and bring in 80% of the profits! You need to look in the mirror and decide who you are. Get back to being focused and you'll find yourself back in that top 20%.

You are so right. Some agents just don't get it that the harder you work, the luckier you get.

So true and you have a great point. Your amount of luck is in direct proportion to how hard you work!
