Real Estate Agents have for years been shouting Location, Location, Location… with the increased use of mobile technologies… it’s even more important! People today use their cell phone to connect with the internet while they are mobile, and the cell phones are always tracked for location because they rely on cell phone towers to send and receive messages. In other words, your cell phone always knows where it is located on the planet.
Here are some ways you can take advantage of GeoLocation:
- Use a Geolocation based camera, on the disk for your camera, or enable it on your iPhone (thought this was cool about uploading from the iPhone to Google Maps, but that’s another post).
- Get your business listed on Google Maps. Update you listing to include important customer information like your hours, services, products, and even photographs. You can also use Google Maps to create a map of places to park to watch fireworks, or all of the parking garages near a condo, or your favorite places to get BarBQue.
- Find local people who use Twitter. You can follow them, and even schedule a Tweetup at your business with your local Twitter community. Location-aware apps can also offer ways of finding potential buyers. Use Hootsuite or Tweetdeck for an Advanced search of tweets with a specific set of words, such as “looking for,” or “moving to” and then narrow the search by location.
- Check out the various Geo Location based check-in services like Brightkite, Foursquare, and Gowalla and the new Facebook Places App. The First Thing to do is see if your business is listed with each service. Users “check-in” to specific locations and can earn badges or become the “mayor” of a place they frequent often.
All of these services allow you to offer specials and coupons. What if you offered a free list of foreclosed homes in your area or local market data? You should be checking in when you hold open houses, and when you are attending events at the very least!
There are apps available that offer school reviews, crime data, and news… Certainly you have customers who are interested in neighborhood news! What if you offered a free app download on your website or through you Facebook Business Page? Yelp offers business reviews (including some reviews of real estate agents) and although it’s sometime pungent, Topix offers hyperlocal news.
