Don't....I Repeat Don't Let Your Husband Decorate with a Gift He Received from His Bachelor Brother

Home Stager with Rooms With Style

No offense men, really. But a lamp from a Bachelor Brother may not be the best decorating item. My husband finally got around to unpacking his Christmas gifts after getting back from vacation this week. One I was hoping would stay in the box.

It doesn't matter that the room is his office, which normally he could decorate any way he chooses, but the room is right inside the front door and a HUGE window faces the street. have all seen the classic movie "The Christmas Story" with the infamous lamp prize received in the mail. What did the husband do???.......He put it in the front window of their home.

Guess what my husband got for Christmas from his brother? Yup, a Leg Lamp. Luckily it was the smaller version but where do you suppose my husband put it? Right again. In the front window of the house in his office.

Here is what the area looked like before the gift:

Here is what it looked like after unpacking the gift:

Leg Lamp

Which Do You Vote For?

He thought it was great! That everyone seeing it in the front window would think it was so funny. Yup, maybe so.

You can vote, I'll listen to all the debate.......But it's NOT staying in the front window. I'm putting my foot down.

I mean seriously, I'm a Designer and Home Stager for crying out loud. What would the neighbors think? LOL

Shar - Too funny!  I'm afraid I'd have to "kick" that lamp right out of the house!  Maybe you could ask to borrow the lamp for a staging job, you know, for the house that never sells for eternity.

Hi Shar - And here I thought that lamp oy existed in the movies! Perhaps it, too, can meet with a mysterious accident as it did in the movie... ;-)

Being a guy -- I love the leg lamp!  And I think it should be in your front window every Christmas!

Oh. My. Gosh.

Time to start "watering the plants" around that one!  Whoops!

Let him have his fun, then put it out only when BIL is in the house....

(Still shaking my head chuckling...)

I wrote a comment to a few of you earlier so where did it go?? I must not have hit submit.....good grief.

Kathy, he does have a sense of humor. BUT, he did say "But it's a classic".

I am staging a vacant 3/4 million $ house in a couple weeks Sally. Maybe I could use it there! Can you imagine!!

Good idea Judy! I forgot about the mysterious accident.

Good pun Susan! Oh, I know how the room is going to turn out, trust me.

Okay Richard, I will count your vote. It would be a fun conversation piece to have up during a Christmas party. All year......ah, no.

David, I forgot about the "F-r-a-g-i-l-e" on the huge box in the movie even though I just watched it again a few weeks ago. Brother-in-law LOVES the movie and thought the lamp was great. But of course he knew what I would think of it.

I don't have any plants to water Kathllenbut I do have 2 huge St. Bernards that could accidentally run into the table (even tho they have never broken anything in the 26 years we have had Saints....but always a first!).

Re-gifting is definitely a good idea Janice.Perhaps not to B-I-L but the next White Elephant party for sure. Sad thing is he probably paid alot of money for it.

Between the "foot washing" (last post) and this, I have had a lot of laughter. Which is good!

So,.... what if,... you just accidently put a few doggie treats behind that table??  Wouldn't be your fault!

Okay, perhaps that is a bit too naughty.  You have gotta let a guy have what a guy wants to have once in a while, or they just get worse right?   Perhaps he could set his office up in the basement or garage?!?
