I've spoken a bit recently about Open Enrollment and School of Choice in Colorado but there is another school related deadline coming up that you need to be aware of if you have young ones and you have recently moved to Douglas County.
Kindergarten Enrollment is generally in January for the following year, and that is no exception for 2011 - 2012 school year.
Douglas County School District holds kindergarten enrollment at each school, all at their own times that range from 1/10 - 1/31.
There is a list of required paper work that you need to bring with you including proof of residency, immunization and birth date records. Check with the DCSD or individual school for exact requirements. You can find a list of all dates and times on the web site - look for the scrolling newsline on the right hand corner and click for kindergarten info. Some schools have a range for drop off, other schools you will going at an exact day & time.
If your school is still on the track system, this is when you will put in your choice for track choice, but that doesn't mean you will get it.
If you are relocating to the Denver area and you have not yet closed on your property in Douglas County, definitely check with the school, but you may need to wait until closing to register unless you are already residing in district.
Douglas County School District covers Highlands Ranch, Lone Tree, Parker, Castle Pines, Castle Rock, Sedalia and small parts of Littleton.
The calendar is out for next year as well, you can view that here. Other Denver area school districts will have similar procedures.
