In case you haven't heard, there will be a merge with the Madison and Monrovia fire departments. The merger is expected to provide a greater level of safety especially for the area north of the Madison city limits. The partnership will also improve the department ISO rating. Fire Chief Ralph Cobb stated that he believes both departments will benefit from this agreement. He points out increase in equipment and personnel should definitely help to improve safety and control of fires.
When I was reading about this merger, I really learned some interesting things. I learned that previously the Monrovia Volunteer Fire Department had what is called a "mutual aid agreement." This means that when they get a call and go out to the scene. They work until they deplete their resources and then they call to request additional help or equipment. The two departments will now have what's called an "automatic aid agreement" which means that the two departments will be dispatched simultaneously.
This new change will go into effect as soon as the 911 center's computer dispatch system is updated with the change. I think this could be a good change for our area. Of course, anything that incraeses the safety of our residents is a good thing... no its a GREAT THING!! If this partnerwhip will allow for faster response to fire, then I'm all for it!
