Almost a year in the making, and now only one day away from the grand opening of Somerset Point. All the planning, designing, discussing, and debating in the world couldn't have prepared me for the last minute obstacles I faced today.
It is one thing to have a delivery truck faux pas, missing drapes, missing signs, an unroutable router, and boxes that seem to multiply every time I turn my head; however, Noah's Ark and Mother Nature were two guests I had not included in the Evite.
Our design center is almost finished. We have literally been working around the clock to make sure everything is perfect. That was our first unrealistic goal. When dealing with humans, one must come to realize perfection is slightly unattainable. We have resigned our expectations to complete or as close to complete as humanly possible. The homes are breath taking, the construction immaculate. As a woman, I just want to make sure everything down to the toilet paper is as darn near perfect as possible.
While battling the reoccurring challenge of living short in a tall world, I happen to glance out of one of the drape-less windows and woe be unto me, I saw a peacock.
Did I really see a peacock or is my lack of sleep finally catching up with me.
Yep, I saw a peacock. I climb down from a homemade ladder, run outside to find not one, not two, but three peacocks. As I am fumbling for my phone to snap a picture of these gorgeous creatures, I turn to see what my "contact-less" eyes thought was a deer.
Instinct reminding me that deer don't normally make such heavy footed noise. Before I could squint my way to focus, this non deer animal takes off down Osprey Road (the road in front of my new design center).
Holy Cow, It is a donkey. I know, I know, I should have managed to snap a photo of this slightly unusual occurrence. I realize many may think I have finally lost it. I have, but I do know what I saw. I saw a donkey. Seeing
a donkey running down the road actually takes the shock out of seeing 3 peacocks.
Crazy world.
This particular area of Beaufort (Ladys Island) is known for wildlife. It is customary to see numerous deer, statuesque birds, sunbathing alligators, rabbits, raccoons, dolphins frolicking in the waterway, and occasionally a monkey.
Unless I missed the memo, peacocks and donkeys aren't quite as common.
Along with a winter storm warning barreling our way, I will take this as a positive omen. Maybe Noah's cousin, realizing the obvious real estate potential, has decided to build an ark in Beaufort.
Possibly the excitement of our new community isn't limited to just the two legged prospects.
Either way, Somerset Point is no doubt a beautiful place with exceptional scenery, incredible new homes, and enough nature to overload a Blackberry.
Our Grand Opening is Tuesday Jan. 11 come rain, sleet, snow ,peacocks or donkeys. I am excited, exhausted, and off to change my contact prescription (just in case).
