"Far and away the best prize that life offers is the chance to work hard at work worth doing."
Theodore Roosevelt
Makes me think of a lot of things with this quote. I love my job and what I do. And coming to work makes me happy. I work hard every day, at work that is worth doing. I train, coach, motivate, re-motivate, create culture, create a great work environment, make sure the office functions in a way that my agents feel that there is value in working here and with me. So the satisfaction that I get in seeing others grow around me is the best prize in life. Doing what you love, helps you to want to do it day in, and day out.
Errrr... Actually, the best prize in life is my Son Ryan (and any other kids I may or may not have in my life). So that is the SECOND best prize in life. :)
Facts about Teddy Roosevelt.
- He was our 26th US President.
- He was known as a Cowboy, for his safaris and traveling.
- First US president to win a Nobel Peace Prize for mediation the Russo-Japanese War.
-
A 60-foot sculpture of his head is carved in Mount Rushmore.
-
Roosevelt steered the United States more actively into world politics. He liked to quote a favorite proverb, "Speak softly and carry a big stick. . . . "
- He added enormously to the national forests in the West, reserved lands for public use, and fostered great irrigation projects.
- Yup, that's how we got Teddy Bear...
- He was elected under the Republican Ticket, however was a founder of the Progressive movement, and tried unsuccessfully to win election under this ticket later. The progressive movement is not aligned with any political party, just as the current Tea Party movement is not aligned with any party. So the progressive movement in its current state is in a way the opposite of the constitutional conservatism (Tea Party movement). This fact alone leads many to believe that progressivism and constitutional conservatism (tea party) can transcend political parties and exist independent of the parties, but can be seen as one or the other. President Bush was seen to be akin to progressivism, but most think of it as a liberal tenant. Some Democrats have aligned with the Constitutional Conservatism ideology which many feel is a Republican tenant. So this is why some of you reading may have thought it was odd that a Republican could also be a progressive.
- While campaigning in Milwaukee, he was shot in the chest by a fanatic.
- Teddy Roosevelt was fifth cousin to a later president, Franklin Roosevelt.
- Panama Canal Rights Acquired (1904)
- Pure Food and Drug Act (1906)
- San Francisco Earthquake (1906)
Thanks for reading, and this is not a political post, or meant to support any political faction. As you all know, I love history and I like to share more about WHO was behind the quote.
