The NC Attorney General's office has shut down another "alleged" foreclosure-rescue company that operated out of locations in Charlotte and Colfax.
According to a recent article in the Charlotte Business Journal, the company operated under the names Hazelton Management and The Carley Group. The owner, Reginald Keith Turner, is now permanently prohibited from foreclosure assistance, loan modification and debt-relief work in the state.
His businesses were accused of charging homeowners an advance fee of as much as $2,500 but did little or nothing to help save those clients' homes.
It's important to remember that under North Carolina law, it's illegal to charge an advance fee for any help with a foreclosure or loan modifications. Those doing so are acting illegally and most likely are scams. We all need to make sure homeowners in financial distress are aware of this and that there are legitimate options available to them (work-out programs, deed-in-lieu, short sales, etc.)
