Celebrating Chinese New Year is a great annual event in Sacramento.  Colorful threads began adding colorful threads to the tapestry of the Greater Sacramento Area, when Chinese emigrants participated in the California Gold Rush, beginning in 1849, and contributed to the building of the first transcontinental railroad.

Sacramentans can welcome the Year of the Rabbit on the Chinese lunar calendar, at the Chinese New Year Festival, which will begin on Saturday, February 12th at California State University, Sacramento (CSUS), 6000 J Street.  The event will begin at noon in the University Union on campus.  Parking is free in Parking Structure II.

Admission:
$6.00 for Adults
$1.00 for Children (12 and under)

Stage Program: 12:00 Noon - 5:00 p.m.
Business Exhibition: 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Children's Games: 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

The event is sponsored by Chinese New Year Culture Association (CNYCA).

The New Year may not be the year to be having babies like the last one has been.

My husband says there are 5 kinds of Chinese rabbits. Which rabbit is this? LOL. He is a rabbit. I am a dragon. No wonder we get along. I like him. That's why he's not dead yet.

Elizabeth - Apparently, your husband knows more about rabbits than I do.   All I know is I bought a pair of them one Easter for my kids.  They were supposed to be the same (both girls), but they ended up being different.  They have litters every 28 days, and breed within 19 hours of giving birth.  It was a really busy summer at my house that year, before I figured all that out:-)   I suspect your husband is really good to you, and that's an excellent reason to keep him.

Bob - I'm really hoping I will be able to attend this one.  I've been to Pacific Rim Festivals in Old Sacramento, but have missed the Chinese New Year Celebrations.

Jack- Ya gotta just love those dragons and lions at the parades.  I like the drumming and chimes that go along with that as well.

Jim - Rabbits are VERY prolific critters.  It could be a year for having babies:-)

Toni - If I make it to this one, I will be certain to take pictures.

Steve - Cong Hei Fat Cho to you too. . .I have no idea what that means, so I could be in a great deal of trouble. . .LOL

Hi Myrl,

Well, I believe it means happy new year in Chinese. At least I hope so or we are both in a great deal of trouble.  LOL

Myrl -

Sounds like you had your Year of the Rabbit(s) a year early.

Pretty poor planning on your part.

Or on the rabbits' parts.

Or something hare-y like that.
