These days don't come along too often, do they? January 11, 2011... 1/11/11... I have a thing for numbers and have been tossing this date around in my mind for a couple of days now, trying to find some deeper meaning to it so I could write a great blog post about it.
I'm not sure why, but I think today will serve as the white stripe on the track that we all line up against, waiting for the gun to fire. The race is on TODAY and my finish line: November 11, 2011... 11/11/11. How poetic.
So what is the race? Where are we going? Why start today? Great questions!
THE RACE
The race is with all those other versions of ME. This is the date of ONEs... and I am the one competing. As I look down the starting line there are quite a few of me: Mr. Afraid of Cold-Calling, Mr. Worried About That Next Commission Check, Mr. Gotta Keep Up With Technology. There are more but they won't get named here.
THE DESTINATION
We are up to the line, ready to run. The prize is around the longest track I have EVER seen. Victory is so far away, I can't even see it from here, but I KNOW it exists. There is only one way to get there, and it's a simple way: take the first step as soon as the gun fires.
I've got to run faster than those other ME's if I want to win this race. Man, they sure look pumped and ready to beat me down, but I have been told that they tend to be intimidated easily when a worthy competitor meets them head-on. I will be that warrior. I will win.
WHY START NOW?
The Race of One starts now. Why? WHY NOT?? We want a reason, well here it is: stop preparing to prepare and just GO RUNNING! The knowledge is there, the players are out there, the clients need help. Go give it to them to a level they have NEVER experienced. Run hard, run fast and stay focused.
THE END
So what happens in ten months? This race will be over. The other ME's will be defeated and the stronger ME will be victorious. The battle will be won, but the Olympics are more than one single race. We will take our vicotry and look to the next competitor. Who will it be? Who knows, but I'm sure it will be a great battle.
On your mark, get set, GO!
