Your Sense Of Humor Listing, Selling Maine Real Estate.

Humor goes a long way in listing, marketing, selling Maine real estate.

Not the kind where you try to be a advertising humorstand up comedian but the here and there drop ins.

The copy, in the audio of the video and over the phone discussions on tell me about the property, the area go lighter, brighter with a sense of humor. Examples?

The decription of the Maine land with a home riddled with "ten foot pole marks" is a subtle approach and being up front, honest.

Or hinting that it might help if you had Bob Vila's cell number, or many friends with several power tools, skill sets.

Or maybe that the Mr Fix It Home does, now that you mention it, look like a Stephen King set AFTER the movie is completed and it's a wrap. This ad on a recent trip to London and Paris caught my eye as clever.

Do you use humor without trying to be Letterman or Seinfeld?

Without a team of comedy writers at your disposal in your day to day real estate operation? Often it is just the way you describe things like when showing properties in the dead of winter, unheated without power and saying "Wee Oh, it's darker than the inside of a cow in here" to compensate for visibility beyond your hand held flashlight. Maine, big state and I am a big, personal fan.

LOL. I requested a lock box code for a property and received this text message "Lockbox code 0000. Insulting offers r welcomed" THAT made me smile too! Humor is very important.

Kathy... Good one. It lets the other end know you are fun to work with and don't take things so personal and get you big girl knickers all twisted up and in a knot.

Andrea... Amen. PTL.  Pass the loot. I mean praise the Lord on that one.

Andy - A smile also helps. Even when meeting clients I've seen ten times if I don't smile, they look at me like this is the day I've come to take their first born away from them.

Andy, We have a listing that was built with roll down steel barriers on ALL the doors and windows.  Basically hurricane proof (and we're in OHIO!!).  There's also an historic cemetary next door.  I SOOO want to advertise the place as Zombie proof :)

Andrew, I could not work in any career that didn't allow a certain amount of humor, and yes I incorporate it in my listings.

Glenn..Good one.

L&B... It would get attention. If a place is haunted doesn't it make it worth more?

Steve... Laughing beats crying, hitting your head against the wall any day. Having fun is something every kid knows how to do instinctively but someone forgot when you turn an adult.

A sense of humor depends on where you live too. The British comedy can hit you or leave you and I am sure our brand of humor is normal, twisted, warped or lack luster to someone with a tickle area different than where our funny bone is located.

Andrew,

Agree wholeheartedly.  Life is too short and blah, blah, blah features drone on and on, but a bit of humor and you have GOT their attention.  And isn't that what you want on the property you are selling for your sellers?  With honesty, of course!

All the best, Michelle

Sense of humor is one of the greatest gifts we can receive. Knowing when and where to use it separates the masters from the novices.

Michelle ... Humor adds a relax, don't be so uptight and take everything so serious too. It establishes that fun is ahead in the process of listing, marketing, selling real estate.

Cal ... You are so right. Unfortunately, not everyone can pull it off or go too far, too risque or just crude and that is not humor. The kind I really don't like is the heckle kind where the joke is on someone else that is ridiculed. That is not humor, that is picking on someone and like the night club comedian who singles out someone in the audience to chastise, that is not my idea of funny.
