I've seen a lot of posts back and forth about Social Media; pros, cons, questions, confusion, speculation. What I tell people is this; "First came mail, then billboards, then radio, then telephones, then television, then internet, then cell phones. Now the social media phenomenon defines our culture. How many of us read junkmail in our mailbox? What was the last billboard you read? The last ad you heard on the radio? The last telemarketer who called you at home? Do you still have a home phone? Do you TIVO or DVR? If so, you don't see TV commercials. Do you still get annoying popups online or have you disabled them? Are you on the 'do not call' list? Have you 'unsubscribed' from many email spam lists?"
The latest frontiers are Mobile Marketing and Social Media Marketing. You probably remember the last text message you got from an advertiser, and you can probably recall marketing seen in Facebook while you were logged in all day and via cell phone.
The video below sums up this message more clearly than anything I've ever seen. It's a must-see.
