Ted - you are correct, on both points. It does look like an elk convention. On this particular property, it is not uncommon to see elk herds numbering several hundred at once.

Jason, I hope they are finding food with all the snowfall we have been getting Assuming you are getting what we have been getting).
Jason, you really have it all in this incredible picture. Nature at it's best.
Bob - the ranch has sufficient forage to support these wildlife populations, they also have the benefit of roughly 600 acres of irrigated alfalfa on, and contiguous, to the property. The elk herd is usually in good shape throught the winter.
Ellie - it is indeed. The first time I took my wife to this ranch, we came over a large rise and below us in the meadow were about 400 elk. She had never seen one in the wild before so it was a pretty special experience for her.
All best,

Jason---It is special to a lot of us. I occasionally will see 4-5 deer together and I think that is really something. Visited Montana for the first time last summer. Very special place!
Pat - thanks for the comment, glad to hear that you enjoyed Montana. There are quite a few natural treasures out here but the wildlife is definitely one that garners a lot of attention. Inspiring and controversial, there always seems to be "news" about Montana's wildlife. Thanks again for the comment.

Jason, looks like an elk convention. Do they know that their ground profile is a mirror image of the "Nike" trademark?
