My family absolutely loves pizza. When we left Southern California, we were so sad to be leaving one of our favorite places (Chicago Pasta House) that served the most fantastic authentic Chicago Deep Dish. Awesome! Imagine our delight when we found out that there was a brand new pizza place right here in Caldwell ID: Garbonzo's Pizza.
Located just across from Vallivue High School at 1404 Homedale, this is the most recent Garbonzo's in Idaho. They use only fresh ingredients, including cheese from our local cheese factory. When we ordered the Garbonzo's Original, it even had slices of fresh tomatoes placed directly on top of the pizza, not just cooked under the sauce. The crust, which can really make or break a pizza, was light and flaky. And, to my husband's delight, they didn't drown it in sauce.
The owner is a local Caldwell boy who was happy to start up his own piece of the franchise, keeping local kids employed. And they have something called Monkey Bread that has to be tasted to be believed. They deliver, too!
For the more adventurous, they offer a pizza challenge: 2 people, 1 guargantuan pizza (I believe it to be 27" in diameter or maybe larger), 90 minutes. If you and your partner finish this pizza in the allotted time, it's absolutely FREE. We were shown the pizza pan it's cooked in and I swear it looked like you should be slapping some Crisco on the bottom and heading up to Bogus Basin to sled down the side of the mountain. HUGE!
If you're ever in the Caldwell area, go to Garbonzo's for a fantastic pizza dinner. You won't be sorry!
