Acting like Sarah Bernhardt

When I was growing up (many years ago) and one of my siblings or I had an emotional out burst (that's right, grandchildren, your generation didn't invent them), we were told we being a Sarah Bernhardt. I never really knew anything about her accept that she was an actress and must have been good being dramatic.

Today I read a quote I really liked and was surprised to see it was from Sarah Bernhardt. It seemed so appropriate for the present, I couldn't believe someone said it over 100 years ago.

"Energy creates energy. It is by spending oneself that one becomes rich." Sarah Bernhardt, actress.

I had to look into the life of this insightful woman and I found she was quite a woman in her time (1844-1923). She is referred to in many articles as the "mother of all divas". Besides being an actress, she was a painter, sculptor, writer, and savvy business woman.  Her resonant voice and deeply emotional acting made her famous as did her shocking behavior. It was rumored she napped in a coffin, wore men's clothes (even took male acting roles), and had many love affairs including Victor Hugo, and Albert Edward the Prince of Wales.

Today, Sarah's words are still true. We can all create positive energy by listening, giving a word of encouragement, a smile, or a helping hand. Pay for the coffee of the person behind you at Star Bucks, start a conversation with the elderly lady who is having lunch alone, toss a ball with the neighbor boy, sincerely thank the grocery bagger, be extra nice to your spouse and children, send a card to that aunt you haven't talked to in years. Give-give-give that positive energy. It will return to you and you will be rich beyond measure.

Deanne:

I have always been told that Sarah was the Biggest Star of her time.......  There was no other actress to equal her fame and talent....  I had no idea she was into being positive, but she sure did something to get her remarkable fame and star quality. Maybe this "Positive Approach" did it for her. Being positive is the only way to be. So True, That Positive Energy Creates Positive Energy.......  Unique Positive Blog, Thanks........     Myrna  :) :) :)

Deanne - Thanks for the insight. She was born 100 years ahead of me (my grandfather used to refer to her acting ability) and had her own persona. She could really drape herself on a couch. Her energy shows through in the photos of her. I agree with her quote.

Deanne, Great advice.  The positive outlook on life helps overcome so many things that send others into a tailspin.

Yes, this is so true in regards to positive energy.  I had this happen to me and wrote about 2 months ago on how someone paid for my meal.  This sure took me by surprise and made me really think.  From that day, I try and stop every day to do something extra for someone else.

I love this.  I think being a Sarah Bernhardt could be a compliment in today's times!  (not to say you grew up in YESTERDAY's times!)  But I do remember going to school and we could be:  1.  a teacher  2.  A nurse   3.  An airline stewardess 4.  a secretary.....  I'm sure you get my drift.  Women never, ever were to make waves!

She was one of my idols when I was a teen-ager. I think she was one of the first pay it forward proponents.

Myrna, Thank you for stopping by. I agree positive energy is key to attracting more of the same.

Larry, From what I read, she definitely did her own thing.

Bliz, You got it.

Lizette, Such a small act of kindness and it is still having a positive reaction from you. Great!

Cara, She was a business woman owing a theater when that was unthought of for a woman.

Marcy, Wow, I didn't know that. I am learning to respect her more and more.
