Real Estate TV Shows make me barf!

Am I alone here or what?

Straight up, my wife likes to watch the buyers show where they look at three houses... I'm not even going to try to remember what it is called.

I watch these shows and I just about loose my cookies with some of the things these agents do, then I read about them travelling there from somewhere else, bumming offices and all kinds of good stuff.

Nevermind the fact that they are not showing the process of selecting a house, but rather some other houses after the fact.

Oh well, I guess I have high expetations on what tv shoudl give me...

What is your FAVORITE real estate tv show - and why?

While not a fan of most RE shows myself, I do enjoy the home staging programs. Mostly because it forces people to really get their property (because it is no longer their home at that point) ready to sell. If they had taken the time before they listed to do it, they would have gained more interest during that intital new listing period.

Terkel,

It is amazing how little value some of the real estate programming offers. Kinda like a lot of other other daytime "entertainment" that shows up on networks these days.  Almost all of these shows are produced for the advertising revenue they bring in - not the quality of the production.

If we all had higher expectations, maybe the production companies would not be catering to the lowest common denominator.

FAVORITE real estate tv show? ... Antique Road Show.  At least you get to see what was in the attic!!!    LOL

Happy surfing!

I think these TV shows give the novices a false sense that they can turn a sow's ear into a silk purse.  In my area we have a lot of distressed properties for sale and I can see these young people walk through them thinking a little spit and polish from Menards and they will have a fine home.  No idea of the real cost or what is lurking in the basement.

I watch a lot of these shows when I have the time.   I like the variety.

More opinions than you want to hear about.

The public can learn more watching The Three Little Pigs than most of the drivel passed off as real estate programming.

I am not much for any of these shows either. Its funny, because I have actually taken the time to check them out a bit because I do want a good real estate show to watch. But none of them cuts it for me.

Team Gale, I see a very valid point on that one.

John, I love it - ARS is something I used to watch, not much these days though... In Denmark we had another show, "What is it", they would pull out some old thing, and ask experts to ID it... All kinds of weird answers...

Marilyn, that is so true. And that goes for the flip this hosue shows double... The investors I get who wants to... [insert your fav remodel] in a few days and for no money...

Rose, I am glad you like it. Personally, the whole "Reality" just isn't my cup of tea, and these especially... I like a good movie.

Mike - HA, very nice.

GRE - You know, I WISH there would be something solid, that actually educates our clients, but then what would we do?

I know a lot of people that like these shows but not many Realtors. I guess it's like cops hating cop shows....TV never sticks with reality very well.

Funny you should mention that Larry - I was just thinking of my ER doc friends, who were absolute E.R. junkies... But then those are the stories of the ER's around, so maybe a little more on, and they were very interested in how the actors handled things... Oh, wait, that was not reality tv, nevermind...
