I originally created and posted a Blog on May 18, 2010 about a wonderful Lake Charles Park-- Shiver Me Timbers Millennium Park. This fun park has been a lakefront destination and landmark of downtown Lake Charles for the enjoyment of children and families since 2000.
Lake Charles residents were shocked and saddened to awake to the news Sunday morning January 9, 2011 that Millennium Park has been destroyed by an arson fire.
Since the fire occurred, there has been a grass roots effort to begin brainstorming and discuss rebuilding the park. Residents and the Lake Charles City officials have begun to discuss forming volunteer committees to bring this park back to life. It did not take long for a Rebuilding Shiver Me Timbers Park Facebook Page to pop up and the City of Lake Charles also has Rebuilding Millennium Park information on the City of Lake Charles website.
By reviewing my original blog shared below, you can see what a valuable recreational park the City of Lake Charles has lost! One thing about the Lake Charles community that I love being a part of is the heart of residents and the volunteer effort. Local televisision KPLC TV reported the latest with the community rebuilding effort. One improvement will be security and better lighting.
I know we can rebuild Shiver Me Timbers and make it bigger and better than before! Stay tuned for an update in the future!

Welcome to Shiver Me Timbers-Millennium Park!
Shiver Me Timbers- Millennium Park was built in 2000 by over 6,000 residents and volunteers of Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana. During a 10 day period Lake Charles, Louisiana businesses sponsored, volunteers helped and supplies were donated to build this wonderful park in downtown Lake Charles on Bord du Lac Drive. Sponsors could also contribute bricks which make up the entry of the park.
The Millennium Park Project is a permanent fixture in downtown Lake Charles reminding all Lake Charles residents of what we can do when our community comes together!
The park is completely constructed of splinter free wood for years of enjoyment so kids can swing, slide, crawl and explore and have their own Pirate Adventure!
Shiver Me Timbers Millennium Park in Lake Charles, Louisiana is a great place for field trips, birthday parties, Mother's Day Out or just a day of fun in the park! Come on be a kid again and experience Shiver Me Timbers for yourself in the Pirate Slideshow!
