CLAIMS
It is sad to speak of, but not unexpected... that the Wednesday speech by UAW President- Bob King to the Automotive News World Congress contained strong words,[some say threats].
In an article from www.detnews.com / Thursday, Jan 14, 2011 / authors David Shepardson & Christine Tierney /
Sec. A / pg 1 A & 15 A / title " King ups pressure on auto transplants" ;
Mr King is quoted as follows:
..."I would not want to be a company that was branded as a human rights violator." this was included as King was
speaking to 'fair bargaining', 'demanding that foreign automakers agree to avoid tactics that pressure workers
to reject unions. & UAW threatens global protest if U.S. workers in foreign-owned plants denied fair election..
...It should be noted that the majority of states targeted are called 'right to work states'.
Will not discuss further, as you can read the article or watch the news coverage; & I know that anyone in this audience can & will come to their own conclusions. Stay tuned to see if & how the American Automotive companies could be impacted.

The Thursday Detroit News has a special section called "DRIVE" that it a Guide to the 2011 NAIA Show
...the front page has a delightful set-up , titled " GREATER EXPECTATIONS"
...sub titled " Automakers are shifting gears and attitudes to be..."

...SMALLER; = Small Cars pg 4
...HOTTER; = Sports Cars pg 5
...MEANER; = Trucks, SUVs pg 6
...GREENER; = green Cars pg 8
...RITZIER: = Luxury Cars pg 10
Clever & fun; Do yourself a favor & locate this section.
On page 2 A , Neal Rubin has a column titled: "Silver catsuit a good sign"
The photo that accompanies his work is one of;
6" 4" Jordan Peek sleeked out in a Silver catsuit, silver stilettos & standing at the driver's side open door of the Mercedes-Benz.
WOW !
Neal subtitles his offering:
"Detroit auto show slowly brings back the silliness that's been missing in past few years."
Neal, Neal, you are not fooling anybody--you know that she is Hot & the car is too. LOL
COACHES
The University of Michigan, as probably all of you know, has engaged the new football Head Coach.
...Brady Hoke is "the Michigan Man" who has agreed to come 'home' to MI to take over the coaching position;
...he came not knowing nor apparently caring about the bottom line or contract;
...he came to Michigan where he spent time at U of MI under Lloyd Carr as assistant defense line coach;
...he went to Ball state where he turned around that program & delivered a 12-1 season.
...he continued his winning ways at San Diego State & turned out a 9-4 2010 season;
...he expects no less from the players at University of Michigan;
In fact, he has set priorities ..."play hard and beat OSU"
Good localism post. Have an outstanding month.
The colors of winter in Maryland. Life is good!
Roy...thanks, yes it is pure Michigan localism. Here's hoping that this jump starts the American Automotive & Detroit Auto plants in particular in 2011.
That is one dramatic photo, too. The shapes, colors & textures in a pair of dried leaves. Good for You.
Have a good rest of the week.

Got to get over to that link, and see what the union is saying. I do have my opinions about unions, and I've been searching for a couple of years now for reasons to go back to my original supportive position.
Laura...hopefully those links will work- at times the navigation within them can deter the searcher. Perhaps a Google of his name, position or Wednesday speech will work better for you.
I know where I stand these past years watching what has happened in the Auto area. For those who do stand on a different shelf than I, hopefully we can express such without rancor. Thanks for your comment--have a great Friday & weekend.
