We haven't had so much fun with snow since 1972? Old Sowell Street picture.

We have just had snow in Searcy Arkansas.  Snow in Searcy means no schools, kids are free to go build snowmen, slide down hills, romp with the pups, throw snowballs and then come in dripping snow and ice and make a big mess in the house.  Then they get dried off, warmed up and they are out the door again.  It's pretty tiring to a mom.  I remember.  I also remember living at the end of this road and this hill and remember when the road would be frozen and kids would come sledding into the driveway.

That little house at the end of the street was built by my husband for our kids.  He called it a tree house but it was not in a tree.  It was on stilts and kids climbed up on ladders to get inside.  It was a favorite haunt of kids for many years.

Barbara, I think you have more snow that us for sure----it rained hard last night and took the little bit we had all away.

Charles, you must feel deprived.  Think of all the fun you're missing.  : )

Don, I thought you'd show a dynamite picture.  He worked hard on that tree house.  After the tree house was built we added that carport and storage room.  We left that house in about 1987.  Before leaving the tree house had practically rotted down and had to be taken down.  We were fearless parents, I guess, because we got the kids a trampoline (the first in town it seemed like) and they would jump off the tree house and on to the trampoline.  Kids would skip school and be found at our house in the back yard having fun. (Just a time or two....not often)  Later on the youngest had a metal detector and dug up change that had fallen out of pockets as kids jumped. Thanks for the pictures.

Godson Nutsy, at least you're just doing V8.  That boss of yours shouldn't be out having tequila while you are left in a banyon tree.  When he gets back home I'm going to give him a piece of my mind. (That is southern for cussing him out)  (Cussing him out is Southern for rippin' him over the coals)................

"Later on the youngest had a metal detector and dug up change that had fallen out of pockets as kids jumped."

Brings a new meaning to the term "chump change," eh?

Luke, you are so creative!  I never thought of that term but the kid was thrilled when he found  a buried nickel.  A dime or quarter would send him into a happy frenzy!

You certainly know that this picture is of interest to our family.  You must have all your archives filed for easy access.  Looks like some things never change.  Kids still rule that corner of the road on Sowell street from the time school lets out until betime.  Folks are still trying to run into the house on the corner too.  Not too terribly long ago a drunk driver would have driven straight into the living room but instead they hit our son coming home.  He was fine but the driver of the vehicle had passed out.  Hitting Stephen probably saved their life.

Looks like we got about 3 inches of snow on our hillside.  Friends from Mt. View reported 4inches and some from down between Arkadelphia and Hot Springs reported 8 inches.

We are still moving the snow sled, hot cocoa, popcorn and old movies made it before the washer and dryer.

I don't know how to poast a picture.  I took a picture of one of Nutsy's relatives in the snow.  The flash scared them off so it wasn't a very good one.  Everyone enjoyed the snow but the sunshine is a welcome sight too!

Thanks for sharing the picture from Sowell.  I'm going to try and copy it for our scrapbook.

What memories that  picture calls up!!  I know that hill well, it was on the way from my house at 1212 W. Race to the creek where I went most days in the summer.  I never remember that much snow but do remember going down it in my red wagon.  It seemed that one would really go fast but was so rough that it was hard to stay in the wagon.  Pulling the wagon back up the hill wasn't so much fun, however.

And here's the old house you lived in, Don.  I believe we did a blog on this one once before.  I'll see if I can find it.

Debbie, back when I lived in the house on the corner I'd stand in the window and watch as cars tried to slide around the corner and possibly end up in the ditch.  I'm a "chicken" and would never drive in the ice and snow.  But the description I gave above of kids behavior was so true.  They'd run back and forth into the house all the time.  Only members of activerain can post pictures so don't feel deprived.  Don Thompson is a member so he is a picture-poster.  When you said the driver would have driven into the house on the corner did you mean the older house or the newer one?

Sorry, to take so long...not been out on the net.  I was referring to the new house cause this would have been in 2009.  I wonder how kids in the neighborhood have survived without being hurt all these years.  Kids must truly RULE!

Debbie, part of the survival is the square corner.  Everyone who knows the area has to slow down to turn the corner.  The others?  Well, you saw what happened.

Yes, that is my house at 1212 W. Race as it looks today.  I'll email you the best (but not very good) picture of what the house looked like in 1940 when dad bought it and before the remodel and rock exterior. We did discuss the house in the past.

Harold Gene, it was your house at 1212 W Race, not Don's.  I couldn't find the old blog so here is the "before" picture again. Thanks for sending it by email. Harold Gene is the boy in the middle on the front row.  I personally like the thin look of kids back then.  I guess it was before McDonald's helped everyone become overweight.
