I'm Missing the Humor Retention Gene!

Real Estate Agent with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices - C. Dan Joyner 21498

Laughing Horse

Some of the funniest jokes I have ever heard, I heard while Charlie was in the Marine Corps. And, as you might imagine, there were some “”off color” jokes every now and then, but they were always told in jest and from good hearts who meant no harm.

The thing is though…I cannot remember a single, solitary one. Not even one. I have always been like that…I just don’t remember jokes – no matter how good they are! I say I’m going to write it down when I hear a good one, but by the time I get to a place I can write, it’s gone. Poof. Like a puff of smoke in the wind.

I think I have a gene missing…the gene that allows normal people to remember funny things long enough to repeat them. If I could just remember some of those jokes I heard way back when, you would see what I mean. Marines seem to just be able to reach in their pocket and come out with something funny. Charlie is that way, but not with jokes…more with just the hilarious way his mind works. I thought he was an idiot when we first met…the things he would say and the way he would act. That was 26 years ago.

You were right about Charlie as my wife was / is about me.  My mind works backwards....I am constantly making something dumb into something very funny.  The Military was part of it and my family was the other part.

But your problem is not that you can't remember jokes, but that you tell yourself that you can't.  Begin telling yourself that you are great at remembering jokes and they will start sticking.  Trust me!

I love this blog! My husband, also named Charlie, says I don't have a sense of humor because I never get the jokes until after everyone else has finished laughing! Cute post!

Sheila- I don't have the humor retention gene but I do have the humor gene.  I love to laugh and hear a good joke, but can never tell one.  I can remember it, but can't tell it the way it should be told.

Sheila, I have the problem too. My wife can remember a joke better than I. It's embarrassing at times when I want to repeat a joke and she has to take over and finish it.

Sad to admit, I think I may have that gene missing or at least somewhat defective. It's okay, as long as you get the joy of enjoying the joke, I think all is well :-)!

Hi Kathy...That's pretty funny! I think a lot of people are like that.

Hi Ted...Now THAT'S funny! HaHa! I'd kinda like to hear that (your wife having to finish the joke)

Remembering jokes can be difficult. It's always frustrating to start saying a joke aloud before thinking it through in your head!

Was he still an idiot when you married him, or do you remember?

It always helps me remember jokes when someone else tells one, then I remember one, then they remember one, etc.

Just pulling it out of the hat is very difficult.  Coure it's probably better that I don't remember some of the jokes I told and heard when I was a Marine.

Hi Adrian...HaHa! I'm glad you thought it was funny!

Hi Aaron...I used to be the world's WORST at doing that! And it was often embarassing!

Hey Erby...He's always been an idiot, but he's my idiot! HaHa! I didn't know that you were a Marine! Semper Fi!   : )
