Eagle Eye in Sleepy Hollow NY – Fotos on the Fly….

A Sleepy Hollow NY resident surveys the land from his perch in the trees…

Late this afternoon I was able to get Jade and Tundra to the dog park in Kingsland Point Park of Sleepy Hollow.  Even though no one was there – there was only one other car in the lot – I had the sense that I was not alone.  I starting looking around and then I looked up. Something was there…but  It wasn’t a person – it was a very handsome eagle silently perched – watching from his aerial  vantage point.  I could  feel his eyes.  He was watching, waiting, biding his time.  He seemed aware of me, but not the least alarmed. I was hoping he would stay still for a photo-op.  He waited politely while I got out the camera and attached the telephoto lens in the freezing cold.  I was able to get a few pictures, but at that distance only one turned out.  Oh yeah – that guy was watching me – his piercing look captured in a lucky shot.  Photo-op finished – he soared away into the late afternoon sky.

Eagle Eye

By cropping the picture - I was better able to resolve the "look" he gave me...

Thanks Emily - He was very polite, handsome, but mysterious.  With that look he captured - one has to wonder - who was studying who?

Like I said Greg, he was VERY polite and waited for me to take the photo before flying away.  I wish I could have gotten the wing spread, but it was about 18 degrees and I had to get the gloves back on - my fingers were frozen.

WOW cool photo! I would have fumbled my camera. What a shot. There are Eagles in Eagle Bay between Ossining and Croton but I have never seen one. That is a big deal.

Nice job. We have an "eagle cam" that's why your pics caught my eye.

Hi Phil -  Truth be told - I got lucky!  Though  I'm thinking about going to the Eagle Fest after getting getting that photo.  Fortunately the eagle waited politely for his photo-op to end.  I have a zoom lens and getting it on the carmera was fun in the cold...holding it steady enough to capture an image that far away was another issue.  It took about 7 shots to get the one clear capture.  But he was just biding his time.  It's nice when wild-life cooperates with camera bugs.  I was very lucky that I had that lens that day. It's awkward and I don't carry it all the time.

Thanks for the linkk Laura - I'll check out the eagle cam.  They are around our area but not generally in that park - at least not that often.  Rarely are they that cooperative.

WOW! Ruthmarie, I can't believe you were fortunate enough to see an eagle in the park who cooperated while you took the picture. That photo is terrific! Thanks for sharing the story. What type of camera did you use?

Hi Tricia, That was one lucky, lucky shot.   That eagle was very generous with his time....I'm never going out without my zoom lens again.

Hi Steve, Thank you so much - I was very glad to get that shot.

Thanks so much Mary, It's funny - this post just keeps on giving.  People are still stopping by after several days.  I'm very grateful to that bird. Do you think he ordered broadband for his nest?  Hope so - He should know how good looking he is and what fan club he's got.
