Clearwater Real Estate Agents find Call to Action Works

be a student of blogging to learn more everydayI was reading Copyblogger  today and they have a great article, Does Telling Someone to "Click Here" Actually Matter?

It reminded me of many of the debates I've read on Active Rain regarding teasers to outside blogs and how much "marketing" should you include in your blog posts.

I've seen one school of real estate bloggers that tend to express the give the home buyers and sellers "just the article please - they'll find you if they want to" and another school of real estate bloggers who express the "I want to make it easy for home buyers and home sellers to take the next step towards doingbusiness with me"

We all are learning everyday about what works with blogging and what doesn't. Many people have asked me about the buttons at the end of my posts and do they work? I believe it is and I am of the camp that wants to make it as easy as possible for homebuyers and sellers to get the info they want. I am getting calls and clicks and just last week closed a $375K condo purchase with out-of town buyers that called from my reading my blog, flew in and we helped them buy their golf community home.

Copyblogger shared the results of a recent experiment of the Marketing Sherpa that was performed with their newsletter readers to find out if the wording in hyperlinks would affect the click through rates. Here's what they found:

Does wording used in hyperlinks make a difference in clickthrough rates? Here's what the Copyblogger reported in their complete article:

"The answer is yes. They found that the right two or three click link words can lift clickthrough rates by more than 8%.

Here are the results:

  • "Click to continue": 8.53%
  • "Continue to article": 3.3%
  • "Read more": (-)1.8%

The lesson is clear. Not only should you use actionable anchor text if you really want someone to click, but you should also tell people to take the exact action you want them to perform in order to get the best response."

I highly encourage you to read the complete article.

Can you share a button or hyperlink wording that's working for you now?

Hello again everyone - thank you for all your comments - this little post took on a life of it's own. I wish I could respond to everyone - I got swamped with 3 new listings, 2 buyers under contracts and 3 new referrals. I know you understand! - Cyndee

Cyndee,

I gave this a five and bookmarked.  I have been thinking for awhile that I would like to add something to the bottom of my posts.  I'm going to work on this later today.

Good job,

Preface: This is the first time I have left a comment where I didn't take the time to actually read all the comments before leaving one myself. 115 Comments!  Nice job Cyndee!  Fantastic article.

I am a huge fan of the "Click to continue reading" link at the bottom of my AR posts.  If it is a post that was originally posted on the Tomato, then you can guarantee that I will use that structure.

My thought is: The environment that is my stand alone blog has been painstakingly, and meticulously developed as a resource for the audience I try an attract.  If the content I write here on AR is of any perceived value, then the experience on my stand alone blog only solidifies and enhances this value.

If I have failed to earn your 'click' with the work I have poured into the abbreviated article here on AR, then perhaps we both lose.

Cyndee, it is an honor to have you on the Tomato Team.  Looking forward to jumping in with both feet this week.  Blog on!

Jim - thanks for taking time to visit, comment and share. For me it's always worth the "click here" - looking forward to learning more from you in the coming weeks. :-)

Pamela - looks like you're on the right track - let me know if you see a difference - thanks!

Fran - thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you found it helpful - I always enjoy seeing you!

Both systems work. Some people want to find info and don't want you to push it to them or shove it in their face. They are simply wanting an intuitive website experience and if they want you they'll let you know.

Others respond well to the in your face approach: i.e.:  pop ins, pop unders, exit pop ups, webforms, newsletter sign ups, direct response methods, loud, bold, full of graphics sites, etc..

A real good approach is have both types of sites to catch both types of people.  than, interlink the sites and employ some deep linking stategies.

Whichever method you choose using anchor text is the way to go in all your posts.  For instance: Learn more about  Vancouver Real Estate  and local housing prices is much more attractive to the reader and to the search engines than:   Learn more about Vancouver Real Estate and local housing prices. Click Here

Hi Cyndee:  Thanks for such a great and timely post.  Lots of good ideas.  Now all I have to do is actually use them.  And, many of those making comments also had some very good ideas.  That is one of the many things I really like about the community-minded spirit here on Active Rain. Thanks again...           Karen Anne

Cyndee- Thanks for this information. It is interesting to know as much as you can about blogging as it is still in it's infancy. I guess I am not surprised at what was reported in the article...it makes a lot of sense.

Cyndee,

Thanks for the tips! That is a very sound piece of information. I will look at using that "click to continue".

How did you get the little box to show up when you put the mouse over the hyperlink in this post? That is nice!
