Tax-preparation assistance available
AARP Tax-Aide is a free program offered by the AARP Foundation together with the IRS. Tax-Aide volunteers are trained in conjunction with the IRS.
This tax-preparation assistance program for seniors will be available at the Oakmont Administration Center, 50 E. Eagle Road, Havertown, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. from Feb. 1 through April 14.
Free electronically filed tax preparation assistance for Haverford Township seniors will be offered by appointment only. To schedule an appointment time, please call 610-853-5900 ext. 7050. Walk-ins will be accepted only if there is a cancellation. Please keep in mind that this location offers electronic filing only. If you wish to file on paper, this location cannot be used.
Senior citizens seeking tax assistance should bring their 2010 federal and state tax booklets, which usually are received through the mail by Jan. 31, as well as their 2010 wage and earning statements, retirement statements, interest and dividend statements, exceptional medical/prescription receipts, real estate and property tax receipts, and any other information concerning income and expenses from 2010.
It is essential to bring a copy of the 2009 federal and state tax returns with you for your appointment.
District officials have designated the ground-floor conference area for the AARP Tax-Aide Program. Seniors can access this conference room by the main door facing Eagle Road and through a wheelchair-accessible entrance at the rear of the building off Hathaway Lane.
Parking will be available along Hathaway Lane. There is a handicapped parking space in the parking area at the rear of the building.
There is no parking in the circular drive in front of the building before 9 a.m. The drive must be kept clear for school buses.
