DEDICATED REALTOR? OR PUSHING IT TOO SOON.....YOU DECIDED

By
Real Estate Agent with Johnson Real Estate, Inc. RES.0761759

Here it is Sunday afternoon, just a little after noon.  When it comes to blogging it has been said that it is good to post some things personal, not just always business... so here it goes.

I'm sitting here in front of the computer thinking of my day ahead, and just got to the point of pondering, wondering if I am doing the right thing here...  This is where you come in.  Let me know your thoughts.

Yesterday will be my one month anniversary of getting my left knee totally replaced.  Since then I have been moved from the hospital to a rehab facility, and then home 2 days before New Years.  I've been using a walker for stability, not only for my left knee, but my right hip that was replaced in September of last year.

I've been working out of the house, and my broker has been wonderful to help step in whenever he could.

Yesterday, I moved from a walker to a cane.... more out of necessity than desire.  Why you ask?  I picked up a new client and they are looking to purchase a home in the near future.  We have been in contact via email, and cell phones.  I've sent them properties to drive by to see if they like the neighborhoods.  Yesterday they called, excited that they found two they would like to take a look at.

I set up the showings and they are for this afternoon.... and I will be the one showing them the properties.  I'm sitting here wondering, I love my job and am dedicated to it... however is it too soon to go out and drive, walk with a cane I just started using yesterday?  I'm praying that there isn't any ice/snow on the driveways and steps.  I do not want to repeat this surgery again.

Am I a dedicated Realtor, or am I pushing it too soon?  What are your thoughts?

You're probably pushing it too soon Valarie. However, I would probably do the same thing because I love what I do too. I'm sure with this kind of dedication you're the kind of agent the goes the extra mile, and now a days there aren't too many.

Maria.. The ONE good thing about this, my clients ARE aware of my surgery.  I told them I would be going slow, if I can do it at all.

I'm allowing enough time to get there, and ample time for each home... to including driving to each place.  It looks like I will be doing this... I'm just not sure if it is a smart thing to do or not.

Valerie: My guess is, if you're asking the question, you already know the answer. Your Buyers are aware of the situation, so don't be timid about asking for help. Mr. Buyer may want to lend an arm or more, but may wonder if it is appropriate. You can ask him for help and create a greater bond and increase your own safety and comfort level. Take care.

Steve... I went, and I must say I think men who have served in the military are AWESOME!!!!!!  My client's friend (a previous client) was there, and he helped me so much, I am speechless.  Thank you Jon...

Wanda.. I went.  Had too...after all, if we don't work we don't get paid, right?  I took it slow, and both men were very helpful.  It was a successful day... but I am glad to be home... I am VERY tired at this point, and muscle ache.

Valerie, it's fine to want to get out there and push to get back into the action. The real person to ask is the doctor that did the surgery, they would know better. And when you do get out there, be real careful becauseit wouldn't take much to slip with good knees

Ed.. The surgeon said I could drive over a week ago.  Mentioned I didn't need the walker any longer.  LOL.. HA, HA.  To the contrary, I could even walk straight without it.  So, so much for the doctor knowing what is best.

I DID take it VERY easy today, only showed 2 properties... and came directly home.  I am so glad to be home.  Showing those properties took more out of me than the PT/rehab on my knee does.

I am so glad it turned out well...be sure to take it easy when you can and don't hesitate to pamper yourself as necessary.  But I totally understand why you felt the need to go.

Valerie, Like you I would probably be doing the same thing... moving foward one step at a time. I pass forward a saying I live (and by) - "remember to take the time it takes and be good to you along the way."  Take good care, Emily

Susan.. I went, and it worked out well.  Today I was supposed to show the same person a condo about 20 minutes away.  We are having one bad snow/rain/ice storm and driving is bad.  Guess what?  I cancelled the appointment.  No way am I going out when I can't walk in weather like this.

Valerie:  Glad to hear you didn't try to go out in the ice.  We had sleet and freezing rain last night, so all the schools around us were closed today, but fortunately it went above 32 degrees and it wasn't too bad.  Stay safe!

Valerie - I'm glad it worked out and I know we all have to make money, but you could suffer a serious setback if you try to go out too soon and get hurt.  This winter is the worst in my memory.   You have a tough set of trade-offs.  I have no advice, but just want to give you my support.

Gail.. Yes it is clear and sunny today, but boy is it COLD.  I just have to watch out for black ice/ice in general when I'm out showing property today.
