Finally! A Solution to Hold Artwork

By
Home Stager with Rooms With Style

I finally have a solution for holding all my artwork in my warehouse. A couple months ago I asked AR Stagers how they stored their artwork as I was moving my warehouse and trying to get more organized.

Propping the artwork along the wall just wasn't working. It took up too much valuable wall space that my smaller warehouse wouldn't have, and items were getting scratched and broken.

Thanks to the many suggestions, I combined different thoughts and ideas and had a handyman build the unit below. It is a free standing piece in the middle of the warehouse, thus not taking up valuable wall space.

It is two pieces secured together but if I ever need to move I can take the securing pieces off and have two smaller units to move. It is just 2x4s and plywood. It's a warehouse......it doesn't have to be pretty, just functional.

The top shelves hold the smaller pictures, then down to medium size and large pieces on the bottom. A couple very large pieces are laying on the very top and the EXTRA large pieces are propped against one wall.

The pictures are also organized by character if appropriate such as bathroom, kitchen, mirrors, clocks, etc. The entire cost for this was only $235 including materials and labor. I love it!

Artwork Storage

If some of you are still trying to decide how to store your artwork, I hope this helps. And thanks to everyone who gave me ideas!

Shar -- for $235 I can't believe how great this looks, and how functional it is.  Thanks for sharing the photo with us!  In two weeks I'm moving my staging inventory to a new warehouse and can't wait to "get organized" over there!!   I will show this to my #1 helper and see if it could be adapted to my new space......

Sally....you'll get your big warehouse, just you wait. I'll have that can of Taupe paint ready for you when you come to visit!

Being able to access if from both sides is wonderful Anna. That way for smaller pictures I can have pictures on two sides and not waste space.

But the "tool belt guy" could have Laura. I think I am liking my stalker's name for me. LOL. I shouldn't make light of it actually. Yeck.

Good luck Maureen. Moving is a huge chore and getting organized is even worse!

I have something similar but... mine is up against the wall and is half the length of my warehouse. Love how yours goes up. I will definitely, come spring time, build something similar. Thanks for sharing!

They probably would work great for your samples Debbie.

You are welcome Kathy. I was like you, I didn't want it taking up my wall space and with 40' ceilings it was much better to go horizontal. I went horizontal with my furniture too by putting in racking.

Love this Shar, it looks like a very user friendly solution.  Think I'll design something similar for my limited space because I hate scrounging for artwork.  Thanks for sharing.

You are welcome Ginger. It is super user friendly. You can see all the artwork which is really helpful!

If she is very organized Scott, yes should would. Me...not so much. It only took me 5 years to get this done. :)

My mother has an art studio where she teaches from and that is about the same way she organizes most of her painting and her students paintings when they are not exposed. Not the prettiest way but certainly effective...:)

Not pretty at all Catherine. But oh does it work well!

I know Cathy...wasn't that cheap? My handyman is very economical.

Hi Shar - This looks great - and it's brilliant to have it in the middle of the room to leave the wall space clear!

Shar, I bow down to thee and say, "aaaaahhhh."  Oh, how I wish I had the room.  Great idea that I believe I will incorporate on a much smaller scale in my "warehouse" in the basement.

Start early Kristine before it gets out of hand!!! It's worse later.

A basement warehouse works to Christine. And it's cheaper. LOL. I hope you can use the idea, it took me 6 years to figure out what I wanted to do to handle the artwork.
