Red dragonfly brightens up a gloomy day

I found a photo of a red dragonfly I took a couple of years ago:

Red dragonfly in Cibolo, Texas

Since the weather in Schertz/Cibolo is still overcast and dreary, it's nice to be indoors working at my computer today. I will need to pull a lot more weeds once it clears up.

It's even better to be inside when I have some photos of one of my favorite insects to look at. They remind me that soon spring will be here and I'll be able to see dragonflies in my garden again.

I’ve never seen a dragonfly out here although Russel has twice, but that’s been in 17 years, and he spends much more time tromping out in the woods than I do.

I think Spring arrived here about a week ago. The sunsets have been magnificent for seven consecutive days now. Rare for us unless there are wildfires burning somewhere.

Laura, what's not to love? :)

Carl, I got up late last night and wondered why it was so bright outside. I had no idea the moon was full--it's been a long time since we saw the moon and stars at night!

Jim, it is strange you haven't seen any dragonflies. But they need to be near water, since they spend most of their lives as nymphs in ponds and rivers.

Isn't  the life cycle of a dragon fly 24 hours?  great pic!

Robin,

What a great close up of a beautiful dragonfly.  You must have a great camera to have gotten that picture!  I have never seen one that close before.  Thanks for sharing this photo with us.
