The Wine Shop is Open! This was a wonderful Design Project I had the privilege to work on.

In November I wrote a post that I had been hired to help Design a Wine Shop and wondering if I should barter for my fee. No....I did not barter 'design for wine' but I have already purchased a few bottles!

The Shop opened right after Thanksgiving and business is thriving.

 One thing the owner was able to do was put in a window in the back of the store. How is that for opening up the space! The window looks down 30 feet to the Mississippi River. Incredible views!

One of the favorite things I picked out was the carpet. Instead of standard boring commercial carpet, I worked with my favorite Flooring Store in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and found some overstock carpet which had ten times the quality for only cents per sq. foot more than the cheap stuff.

Plus.....there is no difference in the Classy Look it brings to the Shop.

The theme for the Shop was "Classy Up North Minnesota". With a mixture of stone, wood and tile we were able to create that feel.

The paint is three colors from the Ralph Lauren Suede Collection. How can you go wrong with Ralph Lauren?

Oh.....and did I mention the Wine Tastings that will be held upstairs in the Wine Tasting Lounge?

Check out Sunfish Cellars. Not only is it a great looking shop, the owner is extremely knowledgeable about wine!

Shar- now that's nice.  I love the carpet and I think it goes a long way in setting the tone!  Good job!!

Shar - What a mamoth design job this was.  I love the circular wine racks as you walk in.  I agree, I also love the carpet you chose and the paint colours are perfect!  The finishes are bang on.  The client must have been thrilled.

Thanks Kathy. I love love love the carpet too. So classy and not your boring commercial carpet.

Those circular wine racks are great Sallybecause the owner has a label on each small section to help you select wine if you are a wine novice. 'Chicken', 'Spicy', 'Salty' signs appear above certain wines if you are looking for a wine to go with a particular dinner. Another rack has 'Second Date', 'The Boss', 'Hostess' above wines to help you pick the right gift. One rack has signs that are '$', '$$', '$$$', '$$$$' so you can choose by price. Love it!

Anna, the very first day I met with the owner he told me he was going to put the window in the back because of the view. It was a terrific idea because it also opened up the space. I can't tell you how the entire space looks 4 times larger with the window, colors, etc. No bonus but I got paid well.

You are so sweet Katie. It was such a fun project and so different from anything I had done which made it a blast.

Anyone can come to the tastings so come on up Joan! I love how the stairway and tasting area turned out too. There is a small seating lounge with leather love seat and chairs but that isn't quite finished. Hopefully an electric fireplace will be added.

SWEET!,... or should I say semi sweet with a hint of dark cherry, cider and robust finish of oak?  LOL!  Okay, seriously you did a WONDERFUL job on this huge undertaking.  Love the deal you worked out on the carpet (bet the owners did too).  What's more it is beautiful!  The stone front on the counters is my favorite part!  Great lighting all around.  So,... when is the next Wine tasting?  :)D

Shar, that carpet made the space. You really hit the target right on with that selection. And you look like a star when it comes in near the same budget. You are on smart cookie.  The overall feel is well suited to the business. Love the wine tasting room. The colours are in tune with the look of a wine store, very tasteful (pardon the pun).

Shar -- everything in this design project looks great!  LOVE the carpeting, especially since it was apparently a real "steal" and the layout for all the different areas is wonderful.  I'd love to do some wine-tasting at this shop and if I lived in this area, I'd be a regular for sure!  It has a really inviting vibe, you did good kid!

Thanks Maureen. Yes, that classy High Quality commercial carpet was cents more per sq. ft than the cheap standard blah stuff at the Big Box Store.

You did a gorgeous job on this project. I love the Ralph Lauren colors that you chose for the wall and the tile is beautiful. The carpet is also spot on! Great job Shar!

I was just "handed" a fire hall to redesign!  Your wine tasting room blog post inspires me.  Already I have a gorgeous vision on how the space can be used for anything from Cub Scout meetings to weddings!

Did you sub-contract, or simply coordinate all of the subcontractors?
