The Cohasset Sailing Club which recently celebrated its 50th Aniversary last season, is about to embark on a major over haul to its facilities. As I noted in a previous post, a new club house is in the works for the Cohasset Sailing Club.
By was of reference the Cohasset Sailing Club is a community based organization whose charge is to provide the townspeople of Cohasset, and children in particular but not exclusively, with an affordable opportunity to learn and practice sailing. Over the last 50+ years, countless Cohasset Residents have learned to sail and began life long love affair with the sport. And who knows how many fond memories linger out there of summers gone by on the water, memories that stay with with you beyond the borders of Cohasset.
Recent years at the Cohasset Sailing Club have been some of the best in its history when it comes to enrollment. The Club is at or near record enrollment for both the youth and adult sailing programs. This is both the good news and the bad news. The recent success have made the club out grow its current facility. The club house that was built in 1979 no longer offers the space needed for neither the class sizes, nor storage of the equipment. The systems in the club house are also in need of an upgrade from the roof, to the electrical, to the plumbing. After an exhaustive study, it was determined that it would be less expensive to simply start anew with a facility that could keep out with current demand. And so, plans have been recently approved by the various town boards to rebuild a new "Green" club house. The building will be the towns first LEED (Leadership in Environmental Energy Design) registered building.
With approvals in Hand the leadership of the Cohasset Sailing Club is now in the early stages of a fund raising campaign to raise the nearly $500,000 needed for the new club house. All donations will be tax deductable, and if you choose to support the campaign, there is a link below that assist you in your genorsity as well as educate you on the goals of the club.
On March 12 there will be a fundraising party at the Atlantica Restaurant from 7:30 to 11:30 PM, and I hope to see you there.
