Tutorial: Inviting Others To ActiveRain (The Fastest Way to Additional Points)#AR200K

Reblogger Laura S. Baker

Some of the incredible "Old Timers" here in the rain have called me (Thanks to all of you who have picked up the phone and called me!  It really made my day each and every time!) to let me in on a little secret here or there in the rain.  This is one of those very issues I received a phone call on that can help you accumilate points with little effort or time involved.  Work smart, not hard!  This post from Active Rain explains just that;

Original content by ActiveRain Real Estate Network

One of the main catalysts for the growth we've experienced over the years, in terms of number of members, has been the ability for our members to invite other real estate professionals to the site.

One of the benefits of inviting others to the site is you earn points for doing it. (and who doesn't love some good old fashion points?) Every person you invite to ActiveRain, that creates an account, earns you 250 points. In addition to the initial 250 points you earn for inviting them, you also earn ten percent (10%) of the total points they earn on the site. We did this because we wanted there to be an incentive for people to reach out and help the people they invite to the site, as opposed to just patting them on the back and saying "good luck and have fun"

That 10% often ends up far exceeding the 250 points you get for inviting them. As an example, here are the lines in the point summary (as of 1/5/2011) for the two people that invited our current point leaders, Todd Clark and Lenn Harley:

Yep, someone was here before Todd and Lenn and sent out the invitation that caused each of them to sign up. Since Todd and Lenn are both over a million points, the folks who invited them have gotten more than 100,000 points each for having invited them. That's a lot of points.

Could you be the person to invite the next ActiveRain millionaire?

How do you invite others to join ActiveRain and get credit for it? It's simple. Here's how. On the left hand column of your 'my home' page, there is a link for 'Invite Others' (If you are logged in, you can click there and it will take you to your invite page). Once you land on the invite page, there are two ways to invite someone.

The first way (as in the example below) is to use the form we provide and input another professional's email address. Once you hit the 'send invitation' button, we do the rest.

The other option, which is often overlooked, is the ability to use a unique URL that is specific to your user name on ActiveRain. That URL is

http://activerain.com/action/referrals/arbob

That URL happens to be the one I would use to invite other people to ActiveRain. Your unique URL will have your user name at the end where mine says: arbob. Your specific URL is given in bold on the 'Invite Others' page. When inviting someone from ActiveRain, you can only invite one person at a time. If you wanted to invite more than one person at a time, let's say everyone in your office, this may take a while. Instead, you could use the unique URL and include it in an email you send to your office distribution list.

Again, you can find the invite area by going to your 'my home' page (which is a link at the top right of every page on the site) and looking down the page a bit in the left hand column, or you can access it (if you are logged in) by clicking here.

Go on now, play with it and invite some of your friends in the business, peers whom you believe would benefit from the immense knowledge shared on a daily basis here in the Rain.

I find that many of the individuals I have extended the invitation to join AR -- do not want to pay the monthly fee.

Hi Lorraine & Loretta,

Yes, I do understand that issue.  However, you can let them know they can play in the rain as non paying members as long as they want to!  They still receive the same knowledge, friendships, networking, encouragement, and much more.  The only thing they can't do is post to the outside world.  Their accounts are members only (at least this is my understanding and experience).  I have been in Active Rain since July.  I just signed up last month to become a paying Rainmaker.  I wanted the additional benifits of posting "Public".  Call me or e-mail me if you want any more help getting others involved.

Holy smokes Barbara, so that's how you flew so fast!  :)D Yeah, that and the fact that you are a super blogger!  I was tickled with my first 250 points that I received for inviting a new member.  Seriously, 100,000 points?

Hear that L & L Krats?  Now that is insentive!  Thanks Barbara.

Laura, I've given my 'sponsor' over 40,000 points but fromthe people That I have invited I've only gotten 2,500 points. I guess I'm not very good at spreading the word effectively.

Yeah, BABY it is Miss Judy!  Invite, Invite, Invite.  It's easy to invite when you feel so very passionately about a site.  Not to mention the Google power you get!  WOW, I am almost always on page one in the first four spots now!  Sign up for Active Rain University and you will learn even more!

And you share the love so well with us newbies Ed!  (that island looks good today ~ I'm home in a snow storm)  Don't feel bad about only 2,500 pts so far, you have 10 times more than I do from invites.  Did you read the last paragraph?  I thought that was the best!  I am going to attach the link to my invitation page to my other social media pages!  Do you think that will work?  Don't tell anyone else, okay?  :)D

I am going to do this. I invited someone and they forgot their log in name and set up another name on AR. So I didn't get those points. It would be great if there was a slot for new members to fill in that said I was invited by : _________. So we can get t he points anyway,.

Sussie, I think you are on to something!  You know what?  I found this site via Craig Shillers other blog.  He isn't getting points from me either.  I wonder if it is possible to remedy that?  E-mail Active Rain and see if that can be done.

Seriously Jason?  I thought you were a rainmaker for a long time!  Getting others to join is great.  Partially just because they are a group of your own peers.

Hi Laura

Thanks for the post. I really wonder why there are not very many people from our area on here. Seems to be a lot for Milwaukee but Madison not very many

Good Morning Tim, That's a good question.  I havn't even found anymore that one group specifically for Madison.  But, we can keep spreading the word!  This has been an incredible wealth of knowledge for me, so it's easy for me to try to get others involved.  If you find more Wisconsin or Madison groups let me know too.

By the way, I won sponsorship to a Sun Prarie Neighborhood on Monday from Active Rain!  Westwynde (Sun Prairie, WI).  I am very excited and can't wait to start blogging to that area specifically!

#25 is the easy part.  It will be a bit more challenge to knock Kristin out of her spot (like that'll happen - those top three are super bloggers and incredible people)!  Keep blogging, it'll happen!  And if you really want your blogs to rank well, attend the Active Rain University Webinars.  Start with the Monday session and continue all week!  You will be very happy with them.

It is going fantastic!  I think you will be shocked (in a good way) the next time you see the house.  The owner is working her little hiney off with me and we have made huge strides!  I will have Photo's for you next Friday or Saturday as I leave for Vegas First thing tomarrow and left her a to do list for while I am gone.  All that is left is for me to put on the finishing touches!  I have never had a homeowner work this hard to get a home ready this fast!  I am so impressed with her drive.  I may have to hire her this summer.  :)D

Don't forget, Invite Invite Invite!
