Resolution To Lose Weight? - Healthy Recipes For A Healthier Lifestyle

By
Home Stager with Sharon Tara Transformations

Losing weight is typically the number one New Years resolution and getting fit and eating healthier are usually in the top ten.  This year, instead of torturing yourself on some deprivation diet for a short period of time and then feeling guilty when you fail, opt for a lifestyle change.

Make better choices and you will change your life.

veggiesEating healthier simply means cutting out processed foods.  I know it's not really "simple" but it will change your life.  You don't have to give up everything at once...BABY STEPS!

Whenever possible buy fresh instead of packaged.  (extra credit for Organic)

Choose water or unsweetened iced tea instead of soda.

Choose fresh fruit or nuts for snacking.

Eating healthier will make you feel healthier...not only will you lose weight, you will sleep better and have more energy.

Here are some of my favorite "healthy" recipes to get you started:

Breakfast Smoothie

Oatmeal Apple Muffins

Homemade Pizza

Turkey Meatball Soup

Ginger Turkey Stir Fry

Chicken and Olives

Baked Haddock with Almonds

Thank you so much Sharon!  I am working hard on getting back into the take it off mode.  Got a little lazy this past month and it is time to change that.  Great advice and wonderful recipes!  I am printing each of them to try this week.  :P  yum, yum!

Dagny:  I hope you enjoy them.  Let me know if you have any questions.

Tammy:  Don't try to quit all your favorites at once.  As you learned when you tried to quit smoking and diet, you will set yourself up to fail if you try to give up everything at once.  Best of luck.  I hope the recipes are helpful.

Alexandra:  You have a way with words!  You are so right, fresh food tastes so much better!

Lou:  Hope you found it helpful.

Scott:  We have gotten so used to covering our food with sauces and spices that we have forgotten just how fabulous they actually taste on their own.

Roger:  Glad you found it "feature" worthy.  Hope the group likes the recipes.

Richard:  Sugar is very destructive to the body and extremely hard to give up.  It's an addiction just like any drug.  Your body will usually fight your attempts to give it up with headaches and moodiness.

Marchel:  Thanks for commenting on the other posts.  I hope you enjoy the recipes.

Laura:  Great!  Let me know how they work out for you.

Sharon, since my husbands heart attack I've cracked down on him and my kids too, and don't allow junk around. I've been eating right and now its time for them to follow! My husband has lost necessary weight off too

Sharon, sounds so good. Thank you, now  I don't have to think what should I make for dinners this week.

BTW I loved your blueberry muffins that you posted last summer. Yummy and easy to make.

Ellen:  A terrible scare like you experienced with your husband will certainly make people change their ways.  Even better is to make the changes and avoid the scare altogether.  I'm happy to hear your husband (talented man that he is) is doing well.

Anna:  My pleasure!  I hope you enjoy these recipes as much as you did the muffins.

Sharon -thank goodness I'm reading this late at night or I'd be raiding my pantry.  I'm definitely trying the muffins and chicken with olives!!! We have been making our own pizza and love it.  I agree with you about all of the processed foods that we put into our bodies.  Can't be good.

i read a "healthy eating" tip once that is so true:  when grocery shopping focus on buying from the perimeter of the store - produce, meat and dairy (yes i know the healthiness of the dairy section is debatable).  nearly everything in the aisles is pre-packaged processed junk.

Kathy:  Sorry about that!  Hope you enjoy the muffins.  The chicken and olives is a Tara favorite.  Let me know what you think.

John:  Healthy food is not limited to tofu.  A lot of it is just common sense.  The more ingredients on the label, the greater the chance that the item is not good for you...especially when the ingredients have 10 letters!

Roger:  I hope so!

Jaime:  True...all the processed stuff is in the middle, in cans and boxes.  The fresh, healthy stuff is the outer perimeter of the store.

Wonderful post, Sharon.  Sometimes it's the little things (like cutting the soda) that make the biggest impact.  I've recently discovered my local farmers market and it's changed the way I eat completely!  That turkey stir fry recipe looks great, thanks for sharing!

John:  Just giving up soda will make a big difference...for some "soda addicts" it can be life changing.  I hope you get a chance to make the stir fry...enjoy!

Sharon--Can't wait to try thes recipes---I love recipes that are not too involved and have 'normal' everyday ingredients.  I am guessing this is how you live everyday?  You sure look like you do!!

Thanks for the recipes Sharon - I will be sure to try some of them. I'm just getting "back on track" from the holidays. The more refined sugar I eat, the more I want so I'm cutting them out for now.

Pat:  Most of the time I eat healthy.  Compared to mainstream, I eat very healthy.  Thank you!

Kristine:  Sugar is so addictive...it is really hard to give it up.  It's great that you are doing it though...it's so bad for you.
