A public hearing about upcoming road construction on Baxter Road in Chesterfield, Missouri was held January 12 at Parkway West Middle School and was hosted by St. Louis County Highways and Traffic officials. Road construction is scheduled to begin this spring. While the project to expand Baxter Road began back in 2001, funding was not in place until the 2011 budget year. The price of the expansion is approximately $6.9 million. Homeowners turned out to get their questions answered regarding the potential impact of Baxter Road access near their homes during and after the construction.
The work will be completed in 5 phases with a total construction time of approximately 3 months. The construction will occur between Heathercroft Drive on the north and Claymont Estates Drive to the south. - expansion of Baxter Road to three lanes with one lane in each direction and one continuous two-way left-turn lane
- construction of five-foot wide sidewalks on both sides of the roadway
- new traffic signals at Baxter Road and Country Ridge Drive
- lowering the hill at Chateau Village and Country Ridge Drives to improve driver sight distance and increase safety
- construction of retaining walls on the east side of Baxter Road between Claymont Estates and Chateau Village Drives, and at the intersection of Baxter Road and Country Ridge Drive.
Homeowners in the area will appreciate the improvements despite the inconvenience of anticipated delays during the construction.
