SHOOTING SPORTS BUILD CHARACTER & OPPORTUNITIES and prove to be stepping stones for greater futures. The athletes that are involved in shooting sports are self-motivated, disciplined individuals who respect their equipment and love their sport. They spend countless hours training physically and mentally. The various disciplines of the sport offer ample choices for athletes to find their niche (Shotgun, Small Bore, Free Pistol, Air Rifle, Air Pistol, etc.). The local shooting clubs and 4-H clubs assist to insure that Shooting sports build character & opportunities for any that show an interest.
These athletes compete at various matches throughout the year in training for the coveted invitation to the National Junior Olympics competition in April that takes place at the USA Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO. In order to quality, they must shoot above a set minimum score which is set by USA Shooting. If they score at or above this score they will receive an invitation to participate in the JO's.
We have experienced the fact that Shooting sports build character & opportunities first hand in our son, Will Brown. Will started shooting precision air rifle at age of 15 and qualified his first year for the Junior Olympics and brought home his first of 2 Gold medals before he switched to the Air Pistol. Will immediately qualified for the JO's with pistol and has held the gold medal podium spot ever since. 2011 will be Will's last year as a junior but these past years have proved so valuable to him.

The US Olympic Committee asked Will to move to the Olympic Training Center after his graduation. In 2010 he graduated from High School and now lives and trains as a full-time athlete. Will's most rewarding moment to date is his recorded breaking score at the Bavarian Air gun Championships in Germany where he broke the Jr. National Record with a 579 score.
Not only does USA Shooting cover Will's room and board, but also makes grants available for college and pay him a monthly stipend. So it is a great, great opportunity! His coach and the Olympic Committee look for great things from Will and we hope, Lord willing, that we will see him in an Olympic games soon.
So if you have a son or daughter not able to find a sport they excel at consider shooting sports. If it can happen to a young cowboy/farmer from Twin Falls, Idaho, it could happen to you!! And don't forget that SHOOTING SPORTS BUILD CHARACTER & OPPORTUNITIES for those who take it seriously and work hard.
