Short Term Memory – Stay in the Moment!

By

So everyone from a child running for student council to someone like me in this crazy world of real estate has been in a situation where everything seems to be going great.  You have life by the ‘tail’ nothing can stop you and then BAM! Something falls apart.  You feel as if the world is crumbling and why even bother moving forward.  You try to find the confidence to move forward but it’s nowhere to be found

This seems to happen to me on a daily basis, deals fall apart.  I used to just sit there and become paralyzed and analyze the situation of what went wrong.  Now I’ve just learned to deal with it and develop a short term memory.

Now some people get wiped out all together, they just feel that they cannot move forward and for an entrepreneur that can be catastrophic.  An exercise that works for me is that I STAY IN THE MOMENT and not worry about any situation that I cannot control.  When an agent loses a deal, it has to be viewed as just ‘another day’.  Think about it, if Dr. Martin Luther King had just given up at the first sign of a defeat in march towards civil rights, we would not be where we are today.

Along with staying in the moment, I also make sure daily that I prospect, especially after a ‘defeat’ I make it a point to fill my prospecting funnel to the hilt and keep my pipe so full that I’m so busy following up with  prospective clients that I do not have time to dwell on the deal that fell apart.  And more often than not the deals that do come in and close put the deal that I dwelt upon to shame.

My mentors have told me to stop going thru the ‘yo yo’ effect to live in the moment and keep surging forward.

Here’s to your success J

Good advice for us all.  It's tough at times to bounce back.  :)  In this market, I find it so hard to make those seller calls that tell them what's new.  Those to me are the toughest calls right now.
