How Sedona Got its Name

By the time the 1900s rolled around, the area amongst the red rock formations was inhabited by fifteen homesteading families. T.C. Schnebly was one of these enterprising young men whose home also served as the area's first hotel and general store. He also recognized the need for outside communication and organized the first post office.

But the area needed a name. The first ideas were Oak Creek Crossing and Schnebly Station but they had too many letters for a postmark. So, after some consideration, it was decided that the town be named after T.C. Schnebly's new wife, Sedona.
