Donna Foerster, Ellen Caruso, Dagny Eason, Ken Barker and Carla Mus-Jacobs tagged me, so here goes by story and BHAG (Big hairy audacious goal).
2011 BHAG: Grow my business 66%! This is dependent on me hiring and training a successful sales person - she just started yesterday and I have big plans for her (I hope to blog about her later in the week). Hoping that I have a 2nd strong one in place and trained by end of yr to make 2012 even stronger.
5 Things about me
1. I grew up in Westchester county in Chappaqua NY. When I grew up, no one had heard of that except to ask if that was the place where Ted Kennedy had his accident (i.e. Chappaquiddick which of course it's not). Then, when I got older, we became a bit more famous when Vanessa Williams was named Miss America. Now, people know Chappaqua as where the Clintons live (some of the time). I now live 20 mins away in White Plains NY.
2. I've lived in a bunch of areas but came full circle back to NY. Went to Dartmouth College in Hanover NH - Go Big Green (but get a mascot). LOVED it. Majored in Pyschology. Moved to DC for 2 yrs (both Arlington and the District) where I was a legal assistant at a large law firm. Decided this was not the right career for me...glad I decided before wasting 3 yrs and money in law school. Got my MBA at University of Chicago and concentrated in Marketing. Was lucky enough to get a job in marketing at Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati which is prob. the #1 marketing company. We had P&G college which was seriously like getting another degree...I learned so much there. What a wonderful company. moved back to NYC area in 2001 to work for Mott's (part of Cadbury Schweppes) - yes, Mott's Applesauce. Lived in Stamford CT (which is 20 mins from here). Then, worked at Revlon in NYC.
3. I'm a marketing geek. See above. I was a Marketing Director and loved it. You may have used or eaten some of my brands...or at least heard of them:
- Hawaiian Punch, Sunny Delight, Folgers, Dawn, Black Flag, Crisco, Revlon, Almay, Mott's Applesauce, Rose's lime juice and grenadine, Pringles, Febreze, Frymax (if you've ever eaten McDonald's French Fries, you've eaten Frymax)
4. I started my own flooring company 3 yrs ago. Because I ran some pretty large businesses and made a lot of money for big corporations, everyone said I should start my own biz to make money for myself. (no one told me the economy was abt to take a dive). Anyway, worked w/ a franchise consultant who found something right for me...tapped into decorating which I really like and my marketing skills. And, I do love it, so that's good. I invested a lot of money into this company and in the long run, I think it will really pay out, even though its' a lot of hours right now. Being a franchise is great because a) I had a quick learning curve, b) I have a wonderful group of talented people across the country to learn from and share ideas with, c) we are a buying group so I get great pricing which enables us to be competitive on price.
5. I'm a So duku grand master and create crossword puzzles. One of my goals is to have one of my crossword puzzles published in the NY Times. If anyone knows Will Shorz, pls let me know.
