HOA's barring delinquent homeowners from common areas!#@!$#

WOW... I just read a great article that talks about some Florida HOA's barring access to common areas and even electronic gates from their delinquent members. I have to say that I am in favor of some of this. It states that some are even turning off the key fobs and other devices that open gates or unlock doors.

This forces the delinquent to use visitor access or to wait by the gate and rush in after someone who opens the gate legitimately. That is some tough love for sure. I guess that I agree with the common area thing and even turning off cable if it's included in the maintenance fees but not the gate thing.

They are making use of a new law that allows it. Too many folks are using the current crisis as an excuse to misbehave and to avoid the responsibility they agreed to. They just walk away from their mortgage and maintenance just because...

In too many cases they are still working, still earning a good income. They find aloophole and jump on the dishonest bandwagon. I wholeheartedly disagree with this. I was raised to take responsibility for my actions and keep my promises. I feel guilty if I don't.

There are some...even many who are in that state by no action of their own. They could have lost a job or are incapacitated. Some catastrophe has befallen them that has conspired with the current state of affairs to put them in the state they find themselves. These folks deserve compassion and understanding...

We all should just consider each case on it's own merits. I bet there would be a lot of different outcomes if this was the case. It is more work for the HOA but necessary just the same.
