How to Get Over 100 Comments on Your Blog Posts - The Sequel

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Austin Texas Homes, LLC 453249

A couple of years ago, I wrote a post called "How to Get Over 100 Comments on Your Blog Posts - A Retrospective".  It was featured, and it received a lot of attention, then it was hijacked by my friends, and it ended up getting over 3,000 comments.  At some point, it wouldn't load anymore, which is why I didn't include the link.  Since I don't have access to that one, it's not a great teaching tool when I'm working with newbie bloggers.  With that in mind, I decided to write another one, in an effort to illustrate which of my posts have received the most attention within this community.

(In case you were wondering, yes, that's the typewriter I use to compose each and every post, while seated in a patch of clover.)

To date, I have 73 posts that have topped the 100 mark on comments, including the one I mentioned above.

I am thankful to each of my 1,935 subscribers, and to the AR staff for paying more than my fair share of attention to what I write, and perhaps most of all, I am happy to have received just over 44,000 comments on this blog since I started back in August 2007.

So, without further ado, what types of posts bring the most comments?  Here are the categories which seem to garner the most remarks, at least for me:

Jason:  As I am sure you will recall, I used to read and comment on your posts quite a bit.  But then... long ago... your posts seemed to become the "in place"... for this group of ten or twelve hijackers to invade.  You seemed quite happy to join in with them... as they just totally took over your posts.  It turned into their own private little party.

Time and time again I saw this happen.  I continued for awhile to read and comment, but as time wore on... I just got tired of it... and bored with it, as well... and gave up.  I just don't do "gradeschool" very well... and that is what I thought all that hijacking was.  My apologies for being so critical... but this post seemed to finally be a good time for me to get that out.

Man, it will take me months to read all your post.  And the result will be me being jealous and not being able to write a single blog because I can't write as well as you.  No fair and not helpful.  But I appreciate your info.

Karen Anne - I'm surprised at your comment, but I respect your opinion on that.  Interestingly enough, the people you're talking about have mostly left ActiveRain altogether.  I see them hanging out on Facebook now.  A couple of the posts I mentioned above were hijacked, but most were not.  I hope you will reconsider and come back.  :)

Thomas - First of all, do you ever go by Tom?  I would be tempted to do so if I had your name.  :)  Next, part of the reason that these got so many comments was because I spent a good deal of time building an audience and/or they got featured.  I think your title is terrific.

I've only had one featured post in my brief time here on ActiveRain, and I think it got about 50 or 60 comments, so I'm definitely in the minor leagues (maybe just little league) when it comes to the blogosphere....but I'm learning every day.  Thanks for all of your humorous and educational posts that keep us all focused on the goal...hitting a million points, errrr, uhhh, I mean generating leads for my business.

Hold on, what's the point of all this again?  Focus, Matt, Focus!
