My Kitchen Renovation

I planned on taking a vacation to New Mexico in October and during my trip my Kitchen was to be Renovated. New counter tops, relocate the stove, new sink, under cabinet lights, Island Hood over the cook top and granite everywhere possible.

Being away I thought it would make it very easy on my spouse no stress while living in a mess. Well, as things would have it, the vacation was canceled and the calendar for the renovation was accelerated.

Granite was selected, ordered new cabinets were added, and we're getting a GE Monogram island hood. Our first estimate from EXPO Design Center for the labor for the hood installation was the first hurdle. They told me at first it was only $110.00 for the installation. I was elated, I told them to go ahead, they sent a measurer out (100.00) who reported back to them telling them that I would be able to have the hood installed where I needed it. Thought everything was good to go!

Then the phone call, by the way Mr. Pecka, your hood will now cost $1050.00 more because of the installation costs. Very disappointed in the EXPO Design Center, I cancelled the installation and called a friend of mine who built my house to have him do it for much less.

Yesterday, the Day's Cabinet's folk came and removed all my counter tops, Joe Claude's electrician disconnected my stovetop in preparation of the relocation and hung the under cabinet xenon lights. The Kitchen is a mess and my dear wife is mastering stress.

Nothing like making coffee on the floor. As a Realtor, I have advised people on what to upgrade and what not to, Now I'll stand in a stronger position of experience in giving advice on the how's.

More to come. I may even have time for  a photo or two.

It sounds like you're definately going to need that vacation till your kitchen is finished--if those little crisis that pop up during a renovation don't "eat up" all your vacation $$! Good Luck, Charles!

Charles,

I can see why your wife would be stressing. You'd better get her out on a nice vacation when this is all over. Of course, you might not want to when you have the new kitchen in. Post some pictures when it's done.

WOW what a pain in the..... But it's almost complete! here are a few of the photo's updating the Kitchen Renovation. Keep in mind that we moved the stove top from the wall and installed it on the breakfast bar, Where the old hood was we had the glass faced cabinets installed and we added a hutch as a new addition.

Kitchen almost normal Almost Normal again!

Old stove top location Now we have usable counterspace!

My wife has been on me to get her one of these for years, but we could never find what she wanted so we had one built.
