If you are new to the area, don't miss the Nashua River Rail trail. It's over 12 miles long and starts in the the town of Ayer. You can park in the center and that is the only part of the trail that has a restroom. It's a very scenic ride with views of ponds, swamps and wildlife. When you get to Groton center you can fill up your water bottles a short walk up to the fountain outside the Town Hall. You can stop by the center for ice-cream and coffee too.
The trail has a 10ft wide paved surface for the entire length and a five-foot gravel equestrian path for seven miles of the trail from Groton Center to the New Hampshire border. The trail is open to pedestrians, bicyclists, inline skaters, wheelchairs, and cross-country skiers and is being expanded into Nashua, NH.
