BEWARE....WINERS!

It is not in every community that you can boast living close to a winery.  But right here in Galveston County, just a short drive from Galveston Island is Haak Winery.  Nestled in the trees on the outskirts of Santa Fe Texas, this cozy winery grows and bottles some of the best wines in the country.

The owners Raymond & Gladys Haak started in 1996 with just two grape vines.  As they researched and tested different varieties of grapes, they soon found just what they were looking for.  A hybrid grape that was resistant to heat & Pierce’s Disease (a bacterial infection that feeds on grape vines) and that grew well in a dry environment.  Haak became one of the first wineries in the country to cultivate Blanc du Bois.  Since then the Haak’s have produced numerous medal winning wines.  The winery now has over 25,000 square feet of space including 1,800 square feet of cellar where they age and store their wines in oak barrels.

They have entertainment and events, rooms to rent for weddings and parties and an annual pruning day.  So on your next visit to Galveston be sure to pull off at the Haak Winery where you can visit their wine tasting room and do a little shopping in their gift shop!

Deb, I don't make it to Galveston often but will have to keep that in mind.  There's a winery somewhere between Spring and Texas A&M as our son bought me a wonderful bottle of red wine from there.

Awesome info Deb! As if I needed another reason to want to head South...wineries are a favorite place for me and my hubby to go. I'll have to check it out the next time we're down there!
