Six More Facebook Page Tips

Since my previous post on Facebook was so well liked - I wanted to continue it with a few more tips that I have thought of or seen done since then.

First- An important one that I should have put in the last post. Once you have I think 25 fans you can change the URL of your Facebook page to a "vanity" link. Mine is www.facebook.com/timesaversva- instead of it being a really long one that has lots of letters and numbers. To do this - Click on Manage Pages - Then your page - Then Edit Page. On the left side click on "Marketing" and choose the option to "change alias" The bottom half of that page says you can choose a name for your Facebook page - you can ONLY DO THIS ONE TIME. So make sure you pick what you want, you can't change it! There is a box to the right - type in what you want and click on check availabilty. Then read the box - make sure it's what you want - and set it. This is more appealing for email signatures and the like.

Second - I saw a business on Facebook doing "Tagging Tuesday" I was so impressed. On Tuesday make a status update that tags other local Facebook pages. For example - Today is Tagging Tuesday - I want to Highlight the following businesses - @Joe's Automotive - best oil change in town. @Daisy's Bakery - cupcakes that melt in your mouth. You get the idea - you can do up to six - after that Facebook won't tag them. If you do it correctly you will now be on their page for their fans to see AND they may even repay the favor at a later date.

Third- I saw another company post a picture that says "Tag yourself in this picture to be entered to win X" This just goes along with the contest idea - Just another way to do it. Each time someone tags themselves it will show up in their news feed "Tom just tagged himself in a picture" People are going to click because they want to see what picture he tagged himself in. Then they too will want to win - and tag themselves. It just keeps growing.

Forth - Use Facebook Events. Next time you are having an open house - create a Facebook event for it - invite everyone that is local on your friend list. Make sure it's a PUBLIC event or other people that aren't invited can't see it. When someone accepts then their friends will see "So and so is attending Open House" - they may want to come too.

Fifth - REALTOR.com offers a Facebook app. I don't know a lot about it but I encourage everyone to research it and see if it's something they could add to their page. I just wanted to throw it out there because it may be great but I haven't looked into it much yet.

AND SIXTH - Most important tip I can give you! If you don't follow this tip you won't have a successful page on Facebook.

DO NOT make a Facebook page just to advertise yourself and your listings. Nobody wants to read this over and over again. If people want to find a listing - they will find it. I'm not saying NEVER post a listing - but it should be 90% content and 10% listings. Interact on other pages - comment on people's posts. Provide valuable information - Don't be a "selfish" Facebooker. Tell people about your neighborhood. Share a special at the local mom and pop restaurant. Highlight a local park. Be a valuable contributor to the Facebook Community!
