Glad I married an ex-realtor...

Not sure about you but I'm sooooo glad I married someone who was a realtor at some point in her life.  Don't get me wrong, she has much better qualities than her being a realtor.  :' )  But it does help a lot!!!  Face it, our schedule is pretty hectic and we hardly ever have a real day off unless we actually pack the bags and go on a vacation.  Even then we catch ourselves checking email, writing offers, calling people, etc.  You just cant get away.

I pride myself on being pretty good on making time, turning my phone off, and just taking some control.  The reality is, it's just not that simple!!!!!

I'm curious to hear how you deal with your relationships, married or not, realtor or not.  Does your other half get irritated with your job?  With you?  Share and maybe we all can learn something.

Michael,

that's a good point, have time or be very administrative on time. I wish to have all time in the world

i was a successful single Realtor when i met my husband.  i explained right up front how things go and what is entailed in real estate...and also what my personal boundaries are.  i guess because he came in with full disclosure, he's cool with it.  as we've added to our family and my business has grown, we work together on priorities and time management and act like a team.  it boils down to communication-an essential ingredient to a successful marriage no matter what industry you're in.  with that being said-a very successful agent in our market is currently on husband #4 because she works 24/7 and has NO boundaries.  i choose to do a few less sides than i probably could so that i can be home with my kids at night and spend Sundays in worship and with family.

Mine understands, as do I!!!  haha  Sometimes you do need to take control and just say to yourself that you won't answer your calls, emails and messages but like you said, it's just so hard.

My better half is a merchant marine who goes to sea for a living.  He typically works 90 days on and then 90 days off.  Both of our jobs are hard but he is very understanding!  It talks all kinds!!

Leigh,  Haha I like that.  Full disclosure!!!  LOL!  I agree that communication and teamwork is the key for sure!

Sue,  OK that is a bit extreme!  Must be hard for sure!

Thanks for your comments.

Yeah Mike, you so lucky to be with Janal. She's so sweet. What's really great is that she was an ex-realtor so she understands your situation. As long as you bring in results, the other half should understand but like everyone says, communication is key.
