As I started my morning walk this morning the Tallahassee air was a little cooler and dryer, just a hint of fall. Quite nice. Fall is a beautiful time of year in this part of the world and a great time for people to shop for new homes.
It was also trash collection day and as I walked by my neighbor's house, I noticed some extra beverage cans that I'm quite sure weren't their's lying next to the edge of the road. So, good neighbor that I am, I picked them up, dropped them in the convenient recycle bin and continued my climb up the hill.
Another four cans, three bottles several candy wrappers & snack food containers later and I started to sense a trend. Lucky for me the trash and recycle containers were on the street! At first glance, you don't notice the trash that was lying around. But if I was driving up to one of the homes on this street with a family on a house hunting tour, I would be embarrassed by all the trash! And I live in a nice neighborhood where we take turns picking up the trash!
When did it become acceptable to leave our garbage in someone else's backyard (public roads) for them to pickup? It doesn't make any sense to me, because I'm fairly sure the people that forget their cans, bottles, etc., don't leave them lying around in their own front yards. But I digress.
As Realtors, when showing property we all know how important it is that the listing property be in the best shape possible to get the best price and secure a sale. The better the neighborhood looks also contributes to the outcome for the seller. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could find a way to raise the awareness of those who drop, throw, forget, don't realize, etc. etc, that they are trashing our roads and highways?
Which of us wants to be marketing properties along roads that look like this---?
When with some education, public awareness, and a little extra effort on everyone's part we could be marketing properties that look more like this!!!
Have a great day!
