What Does Your Profile Tell Us About You?

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Fathom Realty

I grew up in AlaskaMany of us don’t like talking about ourselves.

We will talk about our kids, our favorite gadget, the football game (and of course SPAM everybody with information about our listings)… but when it comes to writing about ourselves, we sound pretty boring!

I was recently asked to write a MeMe, and it made me think about the fact that I have not really shared too many tidbits on my Profile about ME.  I'm in the process of changing that - because I think it's important!

Activerain gives you enough space to write for a MILE about yourself!  I can assure you that when I read your blog post, I click on your profile to learn a little more about you… if it still says:

Do you have any good testimonials that clients have provided you in the past? Be sure to add them here.

I don’t subscribe…  That's the message that Activerain automatically puts in... it's the standard text from AR!  You should AT LEAST take time to upload a picture and write a LITTLE bit about yourself!  I've seen people on Activerain with over 60,000 points who didn't fill out their PROFILE!

Let People Get To Know You!

To MAXIMIZE your Free Member’s Only Account, think about the fact that people CAN see this on the web!

If you have 4 Designations – don’t just put ePro, or CRS or IMSD...  Write a paragraph about that training!  Let people know why it was important to you, as a person, to get the SRES designation.

If you are a veteran – write about what and where you served.  Another Service Member, or their family will relate to you faster.

Add Pictures to your Activerain Profile!

Add pictures of your area, your family – the charities and events that you are passionate about… because I’ll bet you are not the only person who is passionate about Curing Breast Cancer, or Autism, or Homelessness, or Solving the Deficit.  The person reading your profile is much more likely to pick up the phone and contact someone they feel they can relate to.  If your Profile looks like this:

Areas of Expertise

My strengths include:

  • Finding Properties for Clients
  • High Level of Education to Improve the Skills All Buyers and Sellers Need In the Perfect Realtor
  • Being Fun to Work With Makes Viewing Properties a Pleasure
  • Efficiently Negotiating the Transaction
  • Lots of Time Within Market
  • Very Familiar with Activity Within Residential Market from Day to Day
  • Good Working Relationship With Other Realtors and Business Partners Important To the Success Of the Transaction

I still don’t know too much about you… do I?

You are Unique.  Let the reader know that! My point is that you can use this platform in a number of ways.  Don’t just write blog posts... Maximize Your Profile Too! Make Friends! Show people that there’s more to you than just being able to negotiate a short sale with a bank!  Yes, Agent’s across the country will celebrate with you when you get that sale through... but you will connect to more people, and create a much wider community if they know more about who YOU are!

And, as I've said before, remember to make comments on blog posts, because other agents will appreciate your encouragement too!!

Okay- this ends the 3 questions that folks ask me about maximizing their Activerain Member's Only Account:

Are You Targeting Your Relationships on Activerain?

Well written thoughtful post. I have been tagged on the meme too but I am struggling on what to convey. I really need to rewrite my profile.

Joshua...you have me inspired!  Yes, I'm guilty.  I've found it easy to write about industry news as well as a few posts on things I'm passionate about...food and my dog! lol   Admittedly, I do find it difficult to write about myself but I'm going to take your post as a self imposed challenge and get to work on ME!

So please don't judge me too soon (I've only been on AR two weeks today) based on my current profile....I'm an onion...gotta peel back those layers!  lol

Thanks for the pep talk!

Best,

Karen

Awesome post, Josh! You really hit the nail on the head. I really have a hard time talking about myself. I think it'll be easier for me to let my clients do it so I will definately ask for their testimonials.

Thank you so much!

Great reminder, Joshua.  Many of us were quite green to blogging when we initially uploaded our profiles.  It makes good sense to revisit and improve.  Thanks.

I completed my profile when I joined, but it might be time to look at it again since it’s been over two years.

Joshua,

It's never too late to suggest a post, so here goes. I have been thinking about updating my profile for weeks now, so this is timely. Furthermore, you point out things about pictures and charities that I never thought about.

Thanks for the thoughts.
