New Trends for Generation Y

By

I read an article earlier this week listing trends we're likely to see based on a survey by a firm (RCLO) of Echo New Trends for Generation YBoomers (kids of baby boomers born between 1980 and the early 2000s).

- They like an urban feel but not necessarily in the city.  Although suburbs are not their cup of tea either.
- Walkability is a big plus.
- No lawns to mow.
- Outdoor fire pits are a big plus.
- No formal dining rooms but big spaces for friends to gather - think party room or game room.  Not necessarily in their own home.
- Big shower - no tub
- Space in front of the TV for Wii.
- And even meals are in front of the TV; they're not looking for spacious dining rooms and family gatherings around the dining room table.

Here is the article if you'd like to read more:

Kate - These are very interesting shifts for buyers. Space in front of the T.V. area for Wii and other "body movement" video games makes me smile. Wow, how things have changed!

I am familiar with this generation.  I have two that are this generation.  some of them have a long way to go before becoming responsible home owners.  I think that's why boomers are adding on to their homes.  Many gen Y ers are moving home.

And they want you to TXT them, Email is too darn slow!

We all have to roll with the punches and mold ourselves to the individual client.

Hi Kate ~  Three of my four children are Generation Y and I can totally relate to what you are saying here and the article is so true!  I hate TV and the Wii, go figure!

Ha!  My sister had to remount her flat screen so my nephew's Kinect would work!

Agreed, it's fun to watch trend changes.  I love the fire pit or outdoor fireplaces.
