Florida Nature: Rain Drops

It rained overnight in Hernando Beach, Florida.  Rain is what we call liquid sunshine in the Sunshine State of Florida!

The Century Plant outside my window has been budding for quite some time.  This morning, the stems and flower buds are capturing the rain drops.

Century plants or Agave americana flourishes in the Florida climate. Already revealing a hint of the yellow flower, it will take another week or so before the buds will open and the plant will display clusters of flowers that attract bees and other insects.

When I lived in Arizona I had a large cactus and succulent garden.  The spring flowers were spectacular.  Eugene, Oregon gets plenty of liquid sunshine, but the climate is better suited for daffodils and tulips.

Silvia- we got some liquid sunshine here in South Florida last night too.  I don't think I'm familiar with the Century plant.  I'm going to have to check it out!  Great photos.

Silvia, I love how the "liquid rain" brought out the plant's beauty. Great pictures - so vivid and colorful!

Rick, I remember that from Texas as well... the desert produces flowers that are absolutely stunning!

Kathy, I'm sure you've seen these plants in your area as well!

Steve, I got carried away a little.  I was waiting to see if I could catch some as they fell off but they were happy to just stay put.

Tony and Darcy, technically we are in the "dry" season but we take it as it comes!

John, you're right, they'll open up with clusters of yellow!

Kristine, first thing in the morning, I wish the sun had been out, but it's been cloudy and rainy all day!

We either get no rain or too much rain, but never just enough rain to make good pictures like that.

Debra, I just read that people in the Northern States are tired of winter and trying to escape to warmer climates even if only for a little while!

Bill, will do!

Jim, I know you are spoiled when it comes to photos so I'm glad you like these! :-)

Al and Peggy, lots of Canadians here in our area right now escaping the brunt of winter!

Silvia, what great shots, wow.  I think they are spectacular.  I did not know Agave flourished in FL.  :)

Kathy,

The century plant is very common in South Florida, I'm sure you've seen them but just not known the name. :)

Steve, thank you for both your comments!

Gary, I have a jade plant too, with this cold weather though it should come in the house!
