In Physics the second corollary to Newton's third law of gravity is , The probability of the bread landing Jelly side down is in direct proportion to the price of the carpet. In todays vernacular put simply, "Stuff happens". In real estate stuff happens. But there is one thing that really frosts my beer mug.
Today our Justice department, with our tax dollars, that we make in our business, is suing NAR and MLS's for being monopolies. Forget that there are hundreds of MLS's. Forget that there are only 3 oil companies, one giant computer company, etc. etc. Our government thinks they can get away with this so in the end Banks can get into real estate. (We all have recently seen how well they do making loans)
Think I am paranoid not really . The Bush administration recently got , at record speed , the Banking committee and the folks in the White House, SEC of Treasury to agree to let banks into real estate. Fortunately members of Congress thanks to NAR stopped this sword aimed at the heart of your wallet. Now I am neither Democrat or Republican and we can debate who raises taxes and who is better for us ad nauseum but this move by the White house is pure special interests in action at its best. But I digress.
Getting back to the suit against us and MLs's. let me just say that I , like you all pay to be in my MLs's . So I really am offended when a non Realtor listing is in my MLS and says no Realtors. I do not understand the courts. I do not understand the logic. I do understand that real estate is a great business and one of the last businesses and individual can be in and make money that does not start out with the phrase, "Can I take your order please. GET IT !!!
Ranting is not enough. We are the biggest lobby in the US in terms of members. Because we are lone wolfs in our profession maybe that makes it hard for us to act collectively with NAR. But we must. We must talk loud and clear and let our members of Congress know they can be out of a job and saying "Can I take your order please", if they do not listen. Get involved, be active, be vigilant. They all want your money so we all must stop them.
