How to get people to engage with you on Facebook and Twitter

Services for Real Estate Pros with Bluegrass Homes & Farms Realty, Agent Know How

I'm no social media guru, but I've been really paying attention to those people who are, especially real estate agents. There is a cool website that measures your influence, not just on Facebook but Twitter as well, called Klout. Klout

I've been watching my Klout score slowly rising. I started out at 19 a few months ago and now I'm up to 49. Chris Brogan, who is THE social media guru in my eyes, has a Klout score of 84 as of today. Just like ActiveRain points, it's really fun to watch your score rise.

How am I doing it, you ask? First, think of the topics that your audience are really interested in. Or even what most humans are interested in, for that matter.

Ice cream coneYesterday, I posted about ice cream and got 11 comments (okay, two of them were mine...). Today, I posted a question, "Who's ready for summer?" and apparently that really pushed some buttons. I have 4 comments besides my own and 9 likes!

Questions are a great way to get friends and followers to respond and connect with you. Another thing I like to do, especially on Twitter, is provide useful links. Followers respond to people who provide information they can use. This is what Chris Brogan does the best.

Sometimes I use quotes. Most people like quotes, but some don't so I use them sparingly.

Sharing and re-tweeting other's posts will earn you respect as well.

I'm looking for some creative, out-of-the-box ways to get people to engage with me, on my own personal Facebook page for starters, then I'll branch out to our business page when I get better at it. If I find some that work, I will share them with all of you!

Have a great weekend! -Lynda

What is your Facebook page called, Kristal? I'll be a fan.

You may or may not know that when you get to 25 fans you can create a custom link, like this: It makes your page easier to find.
