Bald Eagles visit Elgin so I went to ogle them!

It was a rare event we had in this area right after some extremely warm weather the bald eagles came down along the Fox River that flows through Elgin.  Since the river was no longer frozen it was a complete fishing expedition for the eagles.  On the day I was there last week it was absolutely freezing!  The Elgin Library was gracious enough to be a warming area if you wanted to go inside.  The wind and cold just flew down that frozen water!  I was prepared as best as I could and actually stayed longer than the 2 other ladies that were also there!

What I thought was great was even though you maybe couldn't see them well - you could hear them.  Follow the 'screech' to the area in the trees and there they were.  Sorry that I couldn't get any better pictures than this.  The day I was there 2 adults were together in the trees and one youngster (all black - no white head or tail parts) was just north of there talking up a storm.  I thought it was funny because I really don't consider myself 'Ms. Nature' but I said to the 2 other ladies that we'll be able to hear them.  What will it sound like one lady said?  Not your typical bird I replied.  It is very unusual and if you pay attention it's not like ANY other bird.

So here's the picture.  I thought I would 'point' them out to you. That's the best I could do on that day!

Lyn, we have a eagle that lives on our property. It is so cool to see it around very day. The only thing is we need to keep our chickens covered or else that eagle will get them.

Ellen:  Chickens! Yikes, I didn't know you were that rural. If eagles are around you have to watch everything.

Tony:  I have to say this was my first time in person & I was mad that I couldn't really get that close. I went to the 'best spot' which was true but then the water started freezing & getting smaller & smaller.  I don't know if they are even still there.  It's a high of 9 degrees today here.

Lyn,

Chip and I spent a wonderful day on the Hudson River eagle watching. We were in awe and spotted many.  Thanks for sharing your success!

I am fairly certain I have never seen a bald eagle in the wild.  In fact I don't know if I have seen on in a zoo either.  That must be quite a sight.

Ellen: Cool, I'd be interested. Throw in a pic or two of the chickens.

Myrl: That's why I wanted to check the whole thing out. Since it's the national bird, we should see them.

Irene: I'm sure they are plentiful by you. I guess in Mid-Wisconsin & higher north there are flocks of them.  I guess at one point they counted around 20.

Bill:  Lucky you.  I'm just glad that years ago Ben Franklin lost the vote to the national bird.  It wouldn't be as majestic with a turkey.
