A Visit to the Library in Lake Charles, Louisiana

Lake Charles Library

When was the last time you explored your local library?

Most of us have been in a Library at some point in our lives.  If you are like me, you spent time there in high school or college doing research for class term papers.  Every school usually has a Librarian who will offer assistance and teach students to look up books in the card catalog and the introduce you to the Dewey Decimal System of how books are categorized. Now days we can search the card catalog with the help of a computer!

In today's modern world of convenience when we want a book we usually hop in the car and head to the nearest Barnes & Noble.  Online shopping at Amazon.com has become even more popular and we even have paperless options with the availability to download books straight to our iPad or Kindle device!  What would our forefathers think of that??

For those that cannot afford to buy a book or have Internet access, the Library provides a world of learning and technology. It is still a big wonderful place of adventure.  Today I discovered that even the Calcasieu Parish Public Library has a Facebook Page!

Every City and town has a landmark public library.  Part of my job as a REALTOR is to showcase what there is to do in Lake Charles. So today I am going to introduce you to my local Calcasieu Parish Public Library in Lake Charles, Louisiana.  We will be visiting Central Library today and since I was taught to whisper in the Library I will be keeping my voice down low....

My children used to love going to the Library for Children's Story Hour, I still gravitate to the Children's Section because it is such a cool place for the kids!  The Calcasieu Parish Public Library branches offer alot of learning activities for kids, they even have a homework help available with a FREE tutoring program!

People still come to the Library to surf the Internet....Every Computer I saw was occupied!

Lake Charles, Louisiana is a wonderful place to live and I am proud to see that our Library System offers residents so many FREE programs and learning opportunities.

Thanks for taking the time to promote the Local Library.  I have been the president of the Friends of the Villa Park Library here in Villa Park and have raised over $50,000 to support the local library.  It is such a great place to encourage our children to read.  We also have a children's librarian and she gives out prizes which the friends supply to the readers who read the most books.  It is also a great place to use a computer free, and get on the internet.  We have hundreds of books on tape and old movies on tape and new DVD's  It is a great way to give back to the community.

Marilyn a local library is a excellent place to gain knowledge. In my community it seems to be an under utilized public service. I have always enjoyed selecting a great novel to read.

Let the budget get tight and the local folks threaten to close our public libraries. After all who needs libraries when you have multiple monster truck pits?

What a great topic for a video. We have a new local library so I may try this too. I enjoyed the commentary.

Marilyn libraries are among my favorite places to visit.  I'm just like a big kid when it comes to me and libraries.  I could sit all day.
